Usb Drive on Router

For those having problems with accessing the drive connected to the EE Smarthub on EE like I have since using my new Windows 11 Laptop.

I cannot get windows to access the drive directly  but using the free sync software from https://freefilesync.org/ I have been able too backup my files to the the drive.

Using the address that windows cannot access in the software has the destination folder all work well.

address I used was \\192.168.1.254\usb1\"backup folder name"

Worked a treat.

Hi @brianscott   which Hub version do you have?

Is it the original black Smart Hub or a newer one?

The original black one I think had it for 5plus years.

You need to enable SMB 1.0/CIFS File Sharing Support. In Windows this is to be found in Windows Features. I dunno if that extends to Win11; still learning it.

I believe the router currently supports only NTFS, FAT16 or FAT32 formatted drives.

I had the same issue with my new windows11 laptop.

First thing is to do the following.

  1. Open Control Panel

  2. Click Programs and Features

  3. Select Turn Windows features on or off (Top Left)

  4. Scroll down to SMB

  5. Ensure those are checked

  6. It should after turning them on reboot

  7. Then the create a shortcut on your desktop
  8. right click end select properties
  9. fill it with the address \\192.168.1.254\usb1
  10. then click ok and you should by clicking on the shortcut open the usb drive.

@brianscott : You may be able to do that with the original black SH but you can't with the modern SH+ & SH Pro. Now the USB port is only available as a power source.
