Upgrading from old BT smart hub 2 to an EE 6 plus - how?

Is there an easy way to keep all my settings when changing from a BT smart hub 2 to an EE hub 6 plus?

Or do have to setup a new WiFi and connect all devices back to it again?

The WiFi SSID is BT{numbers), so I'm not bothered on SSID name, but would rather not have to go through whole house to reconnect everything again if possible. Or shall actually start again afresh?

Also I'm reading the 6 plus has better WiFi, as in different standard. Will my devices just autoconnect to the new SSID somehow?

@MrA11 The new software installation process takes care off it all keeping all your OLD info and transferring it into your new EE Smarthub6 Plus, just watch and read it all as you are doing it!

If you do not have any wifi6 devices then you have nothing to gain at all from a new hub! You change the ssid you are going to have to start from scratch with every single device on your home network there is no other way if you change the hub ssid! So you never ever factory reset that new router, if you do then the card info is what it will return to by default!

Yes, it's an option to keep your existing router settings when you pair your EE router with the EE app & the old router is still powered on.

Not strictly true e.g. two notable improvements of the 6 Plus over the SH2 are the use of higher 5GHz channels and also the ability to operate at 160MHz channel widths; this helps with 5GHz range, ~doubles 5GHz WiFi speeds respectively. Whilst devices still need to carry support for these features, they don't have to be WiFi 6.

@bobpullen Is this new on the 6+, never ever got mine to do 160Mhz channels in the slightest, no issues doing so with the Asus, the feb FW update killed it, know what they did wrong but EE just got so pig headed and told me to go, which i promptly did! My wifi 5 (160Mhz) Laptop operates happily on a wifi6 AP Asus 160Mhz channel as it supports that width no issues!

@JimM11 - it's supported 160MHz since launch, as do the extenders. Environment-dependent as it requires the clearance of DFS channels, but that's no different to how the Asus will be operating. Odd that you never saw it.

@bobpullen Thanks bob, at least i am aware of that now on the old 6+ should i ever venture back into the EE fold if allowed!

Asus Routers and AP's all on 160Mhz wide channels

So got new hub. Plugged in with no ethernet cable, flashing amber.

So do I leave old hub plugged into ethernet still, how do I connect to new hub in EE app? Can't see anything?

Do I use the new WiFi SSID on new hub first? All I can see on videos and help is how to setup from new

@MrA11 Plug the new EE Router into the Internet connection and disconnect the old EE Router from the internet connection but keep it powered up! Watch for the message on your setup, keep the old settings and yes to that!

The old router only needs to be powered on. It should not be connected to the BB. It's the EE router that does so it can be paired & setup by the app.
