Strange PS5 Pro download issue - EE 900 Core

Hello a strange one indeed,
I'm on EE's 900 core full fibre, using the Smart Hub 7 Plus SH35A with the latest firmware (confirmed by a quick Google search).

The speeds and pings are fine (confirmed on other devices and on my PS5 Pro via the connection test and in-game ping meters) yet downloading is impossible due to the fact it's stating it'll take hours to finish downloading. Earlier this week my PS5 Pro was working fine, my Series X and Switch 2 currently work even with this weird issue happening right now.

I use ethernet on all of my consoles and I even swapped the ethernet cable between my Series X and PS5 to rule out a router and/or ethernet cable problem yet the problem remains. Switching to wireless resulted in the exact same problem on my PS5 Pro - there was no difference. I even did a factory reset of my PS5 Pro which allowed me to download one game at normal speed before it slowed to an absolute crawl afterwards when the next queued item (only a 15gb DLC) resulted in the same lengthy time period.

I can only assume and make an uneducated guess that it's an issue between EE and PlayStation specifically - as my Series X and Switch 2 are downloading games perfectly fine without any problems at all.

Very curious, can anyone else replicate this with their own PS5 (Pro or regular)?

Thanks in advance.

I've been seeing the exact same issue with my PS5. It has driven me up the wall! However, I'm pretty certain I've sorted it. I have Smart Hub 7 with 900Mbps. Downloads were estimated to take 24 hours for 100Gb game. Download kept starting and stopping. For future people who encounter this problem, this is what I tried:

  • I enabled the compatibility network and put the PS5 on that. The Wifi7 didn't work with my PS5. I think you need PS5-Pro for that.
  • I tried unplugging the ONT and router for 10 minutes to "clear the air". Didn't help.
  • I was seeing low download speeds on the connection test of ~150Mbps. My router location isn't great.
  • As a sanity check I brought my PS5 into the hallway next to the router and wired it with a Cat5e. I tested the connection speed again - 900Mbps. I tried downloading again -> JUST AS BAD!! WTH
  • I booted the PS5 in safe-mode and cleared the system software cache and rebuilt the database -> still bad.
  • What fixed it for me: I went into the router admin page in a web browser -> advanced settings -> IPv6 -> Configuration -> Allocation mode -> OFF.

I hope this helps if you are having this issue! GGs lads!

@MarkCleg Try setting your PS5 Pro DNS server to google at 8.8.8.8 and see what it does.

Unfortunately this didn't work either, yes it'll apparently take 20+ hours and it keeps going up and up. It's a very weird one, I appreciate the tip however.

@MarkCleg What Ethernet port are you plugged into the 1Gb/s or the 2.5Gb/s between both devices?

1Gb/s on both, the PS5 is plugged in the same way my other consoles are in the yellow ethernet ports at the back of the router.

The PS5 shows me perfectly fine speeds via it's test as stated prior, a real head scratcher:

Although I'm happy to confirm my Series X and Switch 2 still download as expected even today so nothing is amiss in terms of my setup. My PS5 Pro was working earlier this week, there was no lead up to, rhyme or reason when it changed - I just tried to download something and then it hung on calculating longer than usual then the ridiculous download wait times appeared.

Series X example with the same game:

@MarkCleg Then it may just be the server you are downloading from is restricting the data flow out to you, that you have zero control over! Pictures posted take time to clear until approved for general viewing!

I was unaware about the pictures so my apologies, in regards to the server I am aware that can happen but this is a first and very drastic shift. I was hoping another member with their own PS5 would confirm if they have the same issue or not as I just feel like something is off somewhere - my gut feelings aren't a fact, I know and you could very well be right in the end.

I appreciate your help and advice today.

Hi @MarkCleg

If on WiFi on the PS5 change the settings to 5Ghz only. (No need on pro as WiFi is 100% improved over PS5)

If on ethernet what is the cable type (cat 5 etc).

Also try restarting your router.

Thanks

The PS5 Pro is on ethernet like my Series X and Switch 2, I've done a restart (this morning, I forgot to state) yet the issue remains. My Series X and Switch 2 happily download as expected, its why I feel the drastic shift earlier this week was enough to make me question was it a mere coincidence or is there an issue between EE and PlayStation Network?

It's been like this for three days now, consistently and I've been with EE for a few weeks now and all was fine until this week.

My PS5 is connected via a cat 6 ethernet cable like my other consoles, I've switched them around between my Series X and PS5 with no change.

@MarkCleg Your pictures are all cleared now, so connection looks good Ethernet wise PS5 to the Plus hub 20 minutes for download is well acceptable also...
