Hi
I have my EE smart Wifi pro connected to my EE smart hub pro router via Cat6 but i am seeing the following issue, after a day or 2 speeds via the smart wifi pro drops to around 350-400 (I have 1000mb) from around 900-1000mb which suggests to me maybe the wifi pro device is losing its wired backhaul connection and falls back to a wifi backhaul connection. If i power cycle the wifi pro it will be back to 900-1000mb again but within a dew days back down to 400 etc, i am using CAT6 cabling.
Unfortunately due to using the EE smart hub and wifi pro on my BT fibre connection it seems i cant see how the wifi pro is connecting, wifi backhaul of wired.
Anyone else had this issue? I can only guess that the cause is the cabling maybe however i have changed out the patch cables and never had an issue with my Deco XE75, always connected via wired at 2.5gb.

@wenklaw At least you are on the last throws off it, if you do manage to keep the wired backhaul up, and as soon as you see it dip again speed wise (Which hopefully you don't now direct Smart to Pro) just pull the Ethernet out off the Smart, wait 30 seconds back on again, wait another 30 seconds and let the Pro/Smart get the port sync negotiation out off the way then straight speed test again! Do one test every 5 minutes or so for a few just so it's consistent!

Speed has taken a serious nosedive, down to 100Mbps on any device connected to the EE WiFi pro. So a direct wired backhaul makes no difference and in fact has made it worse ( could be the coupler but I doubt it as it was fine when i use to use it to connect my Xbox and decos directly to the router)
My thoughts are that the EE WiFi pro isn’t fit for purpose when trying to use a wired backhaul.
unplugged the cat6 plugged back up and bingo back to full speed 900Mbps plus.
I give in and will now look at decent manufacturers MESH kit instead of this trash.

@wenklaw With the fact you hit the 100Mb/s would suspect that the port climbed down from 2.5Gb/s to 1Gb/s to 100Mb/s sync speed, and cable out back in auto renegotiate back up to 1Gb/s (at least) as you reported 900Mb/s above, going to rule out your cable unless you just have a very poor crimped plug cable end, unfortunate just 1 BAD cable from the 8 cores flips it all the way back to Fast Ethernet state! Been there done it all and got the biscuit tin to prove it!
Once you get to the higher speed's you have to be very diligent with it all, have got the son's 10Gb/s singing full tilt and no issues, PS5 Pro still a little oops at times, but i did all the cabling so know it's done correct!

I should have said approx 100meg but saw 130-140 so I don’t think it’s the port negotiating down to 100. I did all the connections on my home LAN and it’s been running with zero problems for over 7 years. I know the WiFi pro is now connected directly but beforehand those cables had all been plugged into a managed switch which never showed bad packets and all cable tests came back as they should. As I mentioned before the ee WiFi pro I was running a deco xe75 pro via a 2.5gig ports using the very same cables and switch, not one problem.
its got to be the EE WiFi pro.

@wenklaw If you look back the post's over 9 months ago it was reported that the Pro was extremely touchy with port speed and cabling, so stands to reason still touchy!

Touchy isnt the word I would use 😂

@wenklaw Hopefully it is not hardware but only poor FW on the product, no matter what the whole testing and approval process and the rush to get it out the door is well suspect. At the end off the day it is an ISP supplied product and only those stress testing it to the max which there are very few that will do, the rest just live comfortable it's working well so let's not mess with it!

I connected the ee WiFi pro back to my switch as 400mbps is better than 100-150 on Saturday morning. Was running at full speed approx 900-1000 then as predicted dropped to 400ish again on Sunday evening, I didn’t reboot, unplug the cat6 as I had surrendered to the fact it would degrade again THEN this morning it’s back to full speed!! Checked router logs and nothing in there that suggests a reboot or power cycle so did it rectify itself and how long until it drops again?

Life got in the way 😉
I'll try and keep an eye on things over the coming week. My Pro extender is using wired backhaul via 2 x unamanged 2.5GbE switches so assume I should encounter the problem if it's a global thing.

@bobpullen You are busy with all the other stuff going on this was way unimportant so don't even consider it! Have a good one! Jim
