Re: Phone extension sockets, Digital Voice and broadband speed

I recently had problem with router. As part of the EE investigations an Openreach engineer tested my line at point of entry into the house. He decided to replace my ancient phone socket with a new Openreach Master Socket 5C.

Router fixed by new PSU, but now will not connect via phone extension point (fine before). Only works through master socket (no electrical outlet nearby). EE "guide" couldn't get his head round this and couldn't see the problem as router working through master socket. He said I need a technical survey at extra charge.

Decided to look online, and I can now see that Openreach engineer did not connect my phone extension cables.

Where to next?

Glad you got it sorted.

I still find it incredible that an Openreach technician can disconnect you old master socket, including its connection to your extension wiring, replace it with a new master socket, but apparently forget to re-attach your extension wiring. And then compound this by expressing surprise when the extension doesn't work!

If that's the quality and training of Openreach technicians now, then we're in for a lot of trouble with our broadband connections!

I suppose Openreach only concerned BB available at master socket.

@TallSteve2 That is the case, all ends with the main incoming cable terminated at the OR Master socket, and when Digital all the extensions become redundant anyway!

Not if you reinvigorate them from the router's Phone socket. Furthermore not all DV require a router!

Not in my case. I want the router in the study where the extension socket and nearby electrical outlet is. I do not want the router in the kitchen with the BB cable trailing across the floor to the master socket, thank you very much.
