Problems with the Ethernet connection from my router to my PC

JHaigh

Hi, I started my contract with EE in February and was sent a new router. I am now on my third router. The previous router and, now this one, have stopped sending a signal through the Ethernet cable to my PC. The PC is using Microsoft Windows 11. Both the last router and this one worked ok to begin with and I was able to access the internet via the Ethernet connection (my PC doesn't have a wireless connection, only Ethernet). After a couple of weeks it completely stopped working. I have tested the ethernet connection using my wife's laptop but this doesn't work either. I have tried all the four ports, different ethernet cables, but nothing. I am still getting a wifi signal and my CCTV system which connects to the Ethernet port to send images out works too. I contacted EE technical support and the person I spoke to seemed to suugest that EE are aware of a 'problem with their routers not working with windows' . Has anyone else experienced this? Has anyone else been told this? EE technical help were not helpful and said there is nothing they can do. I later got a text stating 'my issued was resolved', it clearly isn't. I know I can set up a way to connect my PC wirelessly but I want to do it via an Ethernet cable. I didn't expect this from a new provider and a brand new router!!! Any comments appreciated. Thanks, Jeremy

@JHaigh  If your CCTV is working OK on an ethernet connection, that suggessts it is nt a router issue, but a PC/Laptop tting.

Are you able to connect to the Router interface via your browser? Depending on the router :

Most routers can be configured by browsing to their admin pages using a web browser. The website address differs from router to router, but it's usually something like:

If you’re unsure, check your own router manual or contact the manufacturer for support.

If that works have you changed the network settings on your PC/Laptop to trust the new router network?

Hi Mustrum,

Thanks for that. I'm not technically minded but have a friend who can help me so will try this. I just don't undertsand why it worked fine for a couple of weeks then just stopped, but my router is still working fine with my CCTV. I only have two computers but they are both Microsoft windows based so I wonder if this is the issue and whether anyone else has had problems?

Hi Jeremy

I've got EXACTLY the same problem, did you get it resolved?

When the connection dies, it would be interesting to see the output from the following run from a Windows command line: -

> ipconfig /all

Would also be interesting to know if there's anything in the Hub Manager log, accessed by navigating to http://192.168.1.254 and browsing to Advanced > Technical Log > Event Log. The info there is really sparse but might lend some clues.

I’ve got the same issue but it only started after I had been on line for a couple of hours tonight, which is the first time I’ve tried to join the internet through my Ethernet cable. I had access and did some work on my family tree, uploaded and downloaded, then my laptop went into screen saver mode and the internet dropped off and now I can’t get back on. I’ve just been trying to join wireless but my hub isn’t in the list of available networks on my laptop but it is on my phone and iPad. Trouble shooter told me to replace my cable so I opened a brand new one, zilch happened no connection, I changed ports, nothing happens.

Why can’t I see my hub in available networks? I’m confused. I’ve just noticed there’s a hidden network but it didn’t let me login so can’t be my hub.. I’m not tech savvy these days but I’m not thick, my hub shows my laptop was connected at one point but is no longer connected, so it knows that it’s been online already.

I rebooted my hub several times still no joy, I’m beginning to regret this move already, EE is creating so many issues it’s ridiculous….supposed to be the best broadband my A@@

any pointers would be greatly received

@AngelaF2024 : Which EE BB plan are you on? What EE router do you have?

If you think I helped please feel free to hit the "Thumbs Up" button below.

To phone EE CS: Dial Freephone +44 800 079 8586 - Option 1 for Mobile Phone & Mobile Broadband or Option 2 for Home Broadband & Home Phone

ISPs: 1999: Freeserve 48K Dial-Up > 2005: Wanadoo 1 Meg BB > 2007: Orange 2 Meg BB > 2008: Orange 8 Meg LLU > 2010: Orange 16 Meg LLU > 2011: Orange 20 Meg WBC > 2014: EE 20 Meg WBC > 2020: EE 40 Meg FTTC > 2022:EE 80 Meg FTTC SoGEA > 2025 EE 150 Meg FTTP

I think I’ve sorted it out thank you, I reset my security in my hub to WPA/WPA2 personal and I also switched wireless Mode to WI-FI 5, I rebooted my iPad, laptop and router and now I can get ethernet connection and wifi connections,

I’ve now switched back to WI-FI 6 compatibility and my hub is missing from the list so I’ve put it back to WI-FI 5

I’m dead chuffed with myself 😁👍 I’m now going to leave it alone. I hope this helps the original poster too.

I have this hub -  SMART HUB SH31B
