My new ee hub has a DECT signal coming from it regardless of whether there is a phone connected, My aim is to not use my ee hub in order to create a set up which has no DECT signal coming from it. I thought I could do this by buying a TP-Link Archer AX50 AX3000 Dual-Band Gigabit Wi-Fi 6 Wireless Network Router, and if I want to use a phone, to buy an ATA (Analogue telephone adaptor) which I can connect to an ethernet output on the Archer. Now I realise I can't plug the Archer I bought into the broadband. I think it should work if I buy a model which incorporates a modem too, eg tp link ac1200 router Archer Vr400. Does anyone know if this or any other modem+router would do what I want it to? Thanks.

@Johanstead You need to purchase whatever is required for the connection type that you have, that is the most important part, next is your phone connection type will also depend who/what you are getting, once you have gathered all you need then you can make the choice what will work!

Wow, thanks for listening! I've reached the end of my minimal knowledge. How do I know my connection type? How do I know my phone connection type?

@Johanstead Bit off a long read but can you look at this posting just finished today with the OP and all setup. Connection type was to the OR Openreach Master phone socket type 5c, BUT no landline involved, YOU are NOT going to get an EE DV digital voice phone working on anything but an EE supplied router, that's 100% sure fact! VOIP from another supplier that may be ok, but you need to know for sure that they will be supplying an ATA to do so, but that Tp-Link you will see has sip and if it can be made to work with your VOIP provider then that is a question for them!

Thanks Jim, I had a long conversation with an ee tech chap about all this a few weeks ago. Explained my aim was to run a dect and wifi free system. Currently fibre to cabinet, and eventually fibre to home. It was him who said the Archer AX1800 would be compatible and that plugging a phone into an ATD itself plugged into one of the ethernet ports would work. He evidently didn't realise it didn't act as a modem. Doesn't sound from what you say that the phone thing would be possible either?

Do you have partial fibre (FTTC) supplied from a phone socket or Full Fibre (FTTP) supplied from an OR ONT modem box? If the former, yes, you need a DSL modem router like the TP-Link AC1200 Wireless VDSL/ADSL Modem Router. If the latter you can use any router that has a Ethernet WAN.
EDIT: I see you have FTTC, so the TP-Link AC1200 would be for you & you could run the ATA from 1 of its Ethernet ports..
You only need to use the EE supplied router if you have DV from EE or BT. If you want VoIP from some other supplier you connect it from an Ethernet port thro' an ATA.

Hi XRaySpeX, so are you saying that if I use an ATA ( I already bought a Grandstream HT802) I can't just plug my phone into it and use my ee phone service? And now I'm not sure if it is a 2100 or a 1200 I am looking for? Appreciating all this help, but needs translating into even more simple! Thanks!

You'd have to check with your VoIP provider. You do have 1?

Let's start this phone query afresh. Who is your phone service provider? You can't stick any old phone into any old router with or w/out an ATA w/out having a VoIP provider to route your calls.
If EE is your phone provider you cannot replace the EE supplied router.

Ah! No I don't have a VOIP provider. Told by ee tech chap that I could get a third party router, plug in an ATA and that would do it using my ee broadband/phone line, which as you say is FTTC.

You're being told rubbish! To use EE DV you must use the EE supplied router.
What phone do you have?
