This morning there is new Pro router firmware r3.8.24-R-1531355-PROD-1 and it starts by saying use HTTPS which is then says is not available. It then requires the admin password to get into any level of access. Now testing out what it does.

It allows you to set your own DNS servers in DHCP.

It still does not let you lock the 2.4G WiFi to a channel, it keeps reverting to Channel 11

New hub received today, EE have asked me not to plug it in yet as they're still looking into blocking automatic updates.

Interestingly the guy I've been speaking to at EE tells me further reports of issues with this firmware are now coming in...I'm claiming to be patient zero! 😀

@PortableFrank Patient zero with loads of patience no doubt!

@PortableFrank You are not alone. I am on my second hub since 04 Sep 2025 and having all sorts of issues. It is definitely the firmware. I am on FW r3.8.24-R-1531355-PROD-8300 on the EE Hub Plus and it's has been not been good since I started the EE Trial on 04 Sep 25.

I have also been speaking to the hub team. I have 1Gbps full fibre to premises, all my house is hardwired with Cat 6 ethernet combined with a mic=xture of Wi-Fi devices. All badly behaving. It's not my netgear switch. If I plug my old BT HUb 6 in, all is well, however as soon as I plug in EE Router, stable connectivity goes out the window.

I received this second router last Saaturday and when it arrived it was on fw r1.34.0-R-994210-PROD-83002 and all worked perfectly straight away in the house. Then it auto updated to r3.8.16-R-1463212-PROD-83002 and the issues were back. Then it updated to r3.8.24-R-1531355-PROD-83002 and it's still very unstable.

My hub is on r3.8.24-R-1531355-PROD-83002 and there are zero issues

That's interesting! I assumed all hubs were going out with 2.XX firmware - I guess it depends on how old the stockpile is.

I've just spoken to EE again and having provided them with the serial number of the new hub they've asked me to plug it in today as they are adding it to a blocklist so it doesn't automatically update (though not receiving updates isn't exactly ideal).

@PortableFrank In your case yes correct and @Stephen_C Has the EE Smarthub+ as his EE Router, so it's a different animal altogether

@Stephen_C You may just never get it to work, was the reason i left in March when the updated the FW for that version at that time when it went to FW: r2.68.18-R-1303195-PROD-83002 and the gui is at App version 2.36.4. 11/02/2025!

same here - solid as a rock

So I plugged in the new hub in last night and everything was rock solid using r2.64.6-R-1303886-PROD-1, I was late plugging it in so I planned to unplug it before bed (as suggested by EE) to prevent it auto updating overnight.

Unfortunately, within about 45 mins of plugging it in, the fw updated to r3.8.23-R-1531351-PROD-1 and broke the connection again, though it's a slightly different problem now...rather than the upload speed being stuck at 0.01Mbps it fluctuates wildly from 0.01 to around 240Mbps on WiFi, speed tests struggle to give a result and eventually throw an error, sadly this still renders the connection unusable as the upload is completely stuffed.

I'm wondering if they pushed out an update manually to try to get the hub on what they thought would be the latest stable firmware, I wish they'd just left it on r2.64.6.

I guess the plan will be to send out a fifth hub, I think it's complete madness that EE/BT are unable to roll back firmware remotely. I'm contemplating taking the offer to leave the contract early without penalty.

At least it wasn't any hassle reconnecting the third party kit I'm using.
