Moving from BT to EE

Hi all

My contract for BT BB 900 is coming to an end at the end of October, I am therefore thinking of moving to EE for these reasons 

1. Cheaper - £33 a month instead of £61 , although not sure if the online deal is only for new customers which is daft.
2. Better hardware - EE has wifi 7 router. assuming it is better than BB HH 2

Anyway my question is (and I have found lots of different answers)

1. Can I still keep my BT e-mail address(s) (have 4)

2. What was the experience like for anyone that has moved across ?

There is nothing too wrong with my current setup, in fact BT have been fantastic for the 20+ years I have been with them, it is just such a price difference of £28 a month saving I sort of need to seriously think about it .  BT can not offer me that sort of deal (well online anyway)

@Mattyjoyce 1. Why is that daft, you want a lower price then you will have to move outside off the BT Group off companies, that is BT/EE/PN.

2. Your not going to get a WiFi 7 router moving from BT to EE, your BT Smarthub2 is sufficient operational wise on the FF900 connection. EE may or may not decide that factor, if so the the wifi 7 plus warts and all with that one currently.

3. EE has nothing to do with your BT E-mail, you want to manage those, then pay BT the additional monthly fee if needed, for sure you will if moving outside the BT Group. BT Forum is best advise for that one question.

BT not offering you anything then leave, EE would no doubt be similar with your online upgrade and potential move to them. Prices 8 weeks ago linked below, but for sure NEW customers only deals.

Thank you, very helpful regarding the hardware.  I. will contact EE when nearer my contract end.

After reading a bit more as EE is owned by BT group the e-mails will stay the same which is good, no extra fee as such, only if you move outside of BT group (e.g. Sky)

ps I only meant daft they offer new customers such a good deal but not existing BT (EE) customers, but hey ho thats fine.

@Mattyjoyce It's a dodgy game trying the move, sometimes and i mean sometimes BT/EE will come back and say please don't leave we cannot match the price but here is your deal, stay and you get that, had it happen both EE leaving that was a laugh, sky leaving and the sky turned sour, did it cancelled the VF move sky request, sky reneged on the deal broken promises, so promptly recontacted VF OTS'd again and told sky to go shove it were the sun don't shine. If a company cannot fulfill what they say they are just not worth dealing with. No issues sky system/service or connection just there policy....

Keep in mind when you look, EE new policy £30 additional up front activation fee, unless you do manage to sweet talk them to remove that, see the latest deals if you can get to them, moving BT to EE, then see if BT still allow and do it all for you,,,,

@Mattyjoyce See you also BT Forum'd with much the same advice, also note, the Forum manager's look after both the BT and the EE site, exact same people and they see it all, your Feb 2025 posting is also something still for viewing when you said 5 months. Final part on the wifi7 are you ready to go that far with your own Equipment, few teething problems that will eventually get sorted out, if you do have Extenders from BT on your BT Smarthub2 and/or DV Digital Voice landline that needs also serious consideration.... Going to EE and Landline make 100% sure that get's transferred across correctly.

Not doing anything particular then looks like the EE Hubs work mostly fine, but Extenders/Mesh/Backup takes a little care setting up.

You should do any move from BT to EE thro' your BT a/c or by asking BT CS. That way you should get:

1. Like-for-like BB package with similar router, even keeping your existing BT SH2, at a similar price point. 
2. No Early Termination Fees when you are still within min. term.
3. Keeping your BT email addys.
4. Not having to start a new contract term with EE.

If you tried to do it yourself directly as a OTS migration you won't get 2, 3 & 4 above and will still not get the prices on the EE site which are only for new custs. of the BT Group.

The BT SH2 is WiFi 5. Whereas the EE routers either WiFi6 or WiFi7.

Another thing worth being aware of…

If your laptop etc. is only capable of Wi-Fi 5 then the Wi-Fi 7 hub will just drop back to using Wi-Fi 5, so it can communicate with the laptop.  In other words, you will see no benefit from Wi-Fi 7 until you upgrade your other equipment.

@Denzel99 You have to watch the wifi 5/6/7 type's etc, although my wifi 5 enabled laptop but it does support 160Mhz wide channel, that the wifi 6 Asus Hub does, so the laptop tramps along at 1733/1733 really with no issue's never get's that fast in real life but fairly close at times when all the star's align.

@JimM11 Yes, it's getting complicated today, isn't it?  Personally, I'm a wired network man, so I don't really keep abreast of the latest Wi-Fi.  Wi-Fi 5 is still perfectly fast enough for the few things I use it for.

@Denzel99 You have it in ONE, wired will never ever be beaten stability and speed wired trumps WIFI connection any day off the millennium.... And you will get someone else who steps up and say's W T F are you talking about....

The slow and the fast, but slow is fast enough, tea if you need the wait.
