Issues with EE Full Fibre and Sky Q Box Connection

Hi, There seems to be a known issue between EE Routers (Smart Hub Pro) and Sky Q boxes where the connection will drop on the Sky box within 10-15 mins of connecting.

After a lot of online searching, the problem appears to be that the Sky Q box requires to connect via the 2.4Ghz band so I have activated the "Compatible Broadband" option within the Smart Hub Router settings which gives me an alternative SSID to connect my devices to, however, this combines both the 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz bands and as far as I can see then there is no way of splitting or separating them ?

Yes, you can turn off the 5Ghz band on the compatible broadband option but I also need this to remain on to get the best and fastest connection for some devices that are unable to connect via its WiFi 7 capabilities, all very frustrating.

Basically, is there any way I can split and use a 2.4Ghz only band within the Smart Hub Pro, it doesn't appear that there is.

Secondly, I have tried to use a 3rd party router (Netgear RAX70 AX6600 Wifi 6 Router) and have plugged that directly into the FFTP socket which essentially just replaces the EE Smart Hub Pro although the router doesn't seem to be getting any incoming internet connection, is this because its Wifi 6 only and not Wifi 7 or am I doing something wrong ?

Thank you in advance for any help.

Regards,

Paul.

Have you set the PPPoE creds on the WAN side of the Netgear?

In Using & Configuring a Third Party Router you'll find everything you need to set up your router incl. the BB PPPoE creds. which are now the same as BT's.

No, wasn't aware of changing those settings, I will use your link and alter where necessary.

This might sound like a silly question but as no internet connection is established when using the Netgear then how would I be able to access the admin settings to make the changes ?

Thank you.

You don't need have access to BB nor the Net to access any router in situ. It's all local access.

Thank you both @XRaySpeX  and @JimM11

I'm nearly sure I have stumbled across that thread regarding the issue being solved but I'll give it another go this evening. I already have the compatible network running (with the 5Ghz active) and the Sky Q still drops off when connected to this, however, I'll change the SSID name for the compatible network, remove the Sky Q plug and reconnect using new credentials to see if this solves it.

Its frustrating when all I've done is move house (which has caused the change in Broadband providers) and you'd expect things to work seamlessly when connected back up again but as has been mentioned, its all well and good having new technologies but unless your entire equipment list within your house is set up to be able to deal with it then you will come across these kind of problems on certain devices.

Thanks again, I'll report back.

@Paulbangerte So you do not get confused, the MAIN wi-fi will be considered for the version 7 side of things as WPA3 is considered to one off the pre-requisites along with the combined ssid for that to all gel together.

The compatible allowing others to drop down and the SKY Q is very old now, so at best wpa2 mode, and as on 2.4Ghz for distance push is more than likely a wi-fi4 wireless N styled mesh, there are choices to be made and getting SKY Q operating and stable is the first part, if turning of the 5Ghz is what it takes on the compatible band then it has to be done, and you will have to allow the main band to take the speed hit for the other devices, wi-fi 5 and above.

Powerline can be successful on Q if all devices are Ethernet connected, that will be Q and any Mini style if they both have ability to connect. May also be worth having the SSID with the name off SKYXXXX on the comp side, should not matter but you just never know with the SKY Q.

I have noticed that with the latest version FW update, on the EE Smarthub+ version and i think it is trying to emulate Pro style  control, then the Performance Mode has been removed and no longer allowed to be a selected mode. Taken the assumption that main is wi-fi 6 control, and comp is all below upwards, and this has not been the smoothest transition NOT BY A LONG SHOT. Has seriously messed my network up BIG TIME.
