Broadband Speed

We had EE Broadband installed on 22 Aug, the installation is wireless. The hub is situated upstairs in the front bedroom and our PC is situated downstairs. I was told by EE that because of the setup we may not get full speeds on the PC, which I can understand. Saying that, last night the download speed on the PC was between 140-150 consantly but this morning it's barely hitting 50. Are the Wi-Fi boosters that EE can issue any good? Will it improve the download speeds?

@Paul_68UK Is this the resolve of your other post?

Well we seem to be getting a contant connection now, no drop outs, so hopefully they have fixed that issue. We're just not getting the promised download speed this morning  but we were last night. They said that Wi-Fi boosters around the house will probably fix the issue with Wi-Fi signal not reaching the PC and Smart TV because of the distance between Hub and PC. They also have sent out a brand new Hub to see if that fixes anything. We didn't have any problems with Wi-Fi range on Virgin. I have since moved the Hub to the middle of the room and speed has improved, about 95 now

UPDATE - No change in speed, must have just got lucky. Will have to request Wi-Fi boosters, more added to the bill. Should have stayed with Virgin as they did offer us a big discount which would have been cheeper than EE at this rate

@Paul_68UK Its difficult if you wish to compare one to the other, there are no 2 routers that are alike. If this is a fresh install then it appears that you have got the router placed in the wrong area, What package are you on speed wise, wireless Wi-Fi has way to many variables, and yes a smart wi-fi booster ((may improve your signal)) but you are not guaranteed speed increase with that. Are you getting confused about the promised download speeds, that is to the router, and to test you can only do so with Ethernet cable attached to the router wi-fi off (if possible or not doing to much) and then see how it goes. If you wi-fi test then stand about 3' from the router, that will give you a reasonable picture.

I have just changed a Wi-Fi setting on my PC, changed to prefered band from no preference to 5Ghz and seems to be a lot better for now. Will monitor it. We're on Essentials: Full Fibre 150 and now hitting between 140-160

@Paul_68UK 5Ghz band is faster but less powerful, but 2.4Ghz is more powerful but less speed wise, 2.4Ghz can get speeds up to 300mb/s and all is distance related, so fixing on the 5Ghz preferred band should be helpful and you will have to keep an eye on it, your PC may have been jumping about bands this can happen even though you have now set it up, its not 100% guaranteed that the driver/nic will obey. If you are still struggling for coverage, why not look at something like a Tp-Link RE600X, will save you a lot of money.

Everything seems stable and speeds as should be so will monitor it. Just got off the phone to EE and they said monitor it over the next week, so fingers crossed

We are promised a minimum of 22mbs and I was getting 10 so I called EE up. Two days later they sent out OpenReach. The engineer did something in the BT man hole and promptly turned off our connection. We now have no internet or phone with little prospect of the issue being fixed any time soon. Like a lot of people we rely heavily on a good constant internet connection for Hive, Alexa and security and daily business. Service providers need to listen to their customers instead of collecting cash.

@Notahappybunny2 Have you called back to EE CS to get someone out to fix again!
