Hello all,
So I recently changed my service from 900mbit to 1.6Gbit and that involved a change of router and obviously the OR ONT on the wall.
Ever since having it installed there seems to be an issue with (most likely DNS issues). Whatever is loaded/playing/game continue to work, but I have spells where NO further DNS requests seem to make it through.
I totally forgot to nslookup during one of these issues, but I will the next time it happens (it's pretty frequent and annoying). I can ping 8.8.8.8 (google) whilst being unable to load any webpages on any device/browser. Thus removing the possibility of it being localised to a single machine/device as some were using the router, some were set to DNS over HTTPS and some were using Google's 8.8.8.8 etc.
It is very much like the router is playing the MITM and intercepting the requests and then slowly, or failing to process these requests at all for a period of time which ranges up to about 45 seconds.
As I said, cached requests, or those already in process are fine, but even something as trivial as trying to watch a YT video is met with 45 seconds of nothing, totally unable to look up ANY address, but established connections and new connections not requiring DNS all work fine.
I'm not really one for conspiracies but I really feel like this new router is intercepting (MITM), attempting to do something with, and failing the DNS requests. This behaviour is only been present since getting the new Smart Hub (the tall, thing white one).
I did a quick google and it seems I'm not alone with this - is anyone else noticing this type of behavior?
Mixture of wired and wireless devices, same behaviour.

Ben
I wouldn't try the the replacement hub, I had 2 replacements smart hub pros worked for a while until it downloads the latest firmware, then your back to square one all the main issues again and plenty of head banging on the Desktop table, hahaha.

Im using this router
working great easy to setup and then after setup there was new firmware updated router rebooted afterwards all working great no issues at all so far superior over EE stock router smart Hub pro there's more settings and addons on the the TP-LINK
also as you know when buying from Amazon you have 30 days to return if your not happy if you have the funds give it a go Im happy now with no issues I even got better speed with an extra 40 to 50 meg 1700gbps now vs EE smart hub pro which was around 1645gbps after speed test

@rainman2871 Is there any easy way to transfer all wireless devices on my current network to that router?

When you setup the TP-Link using easy setup choosing either http://tplinkwifi.net or http://192.168.0.1 in the address bar when you load the router home page, First steps Internet Connection Type PPPoE
Username bthomehub@btbroadband.com
Password BT
this is to setup connection with the above details
which you might already know the details.
After You can rename the TP link network name to your old Network name you have been using and also change the TP-Link WIFI password also to your old one which your WIFI devices have been using then reboot router it should then see all your WIFI devices and because you set the (TP LINK NETWORK NAME AND WIFI PASSWORD TO THE SAME ONE YOU HAVE BEEN USING ON ALL YOUR DEVICES SHOULD BE OK YOU MIGHT HAVE TO MANUALLY INPUT THE DETAILS ON SOME DEVICES) or use the WPS button located on the front bottom section to reconnect devices or manually type the WIFI key into the device .
Or start fresh using TP-Link network Name and also use the new WIFI password that also is supplied with the TP Link router its up to you. I hope this helps Just message me if not sure I will help further if needed.

Ah, so as simple as just calling the network/router (whatever the correct terminology is) the same as the current one. Thank you. Only issue, I think, would be all my devices demanding 2.4Ghz are set to the so-called compatibility network which is just the router name with comp on the end so I'd have to re-setup a million devices, anyway.
Gah, what a palaver. If only EE would just FIX THE GODDAMN ISSUE. Oops, got angry for a moment 😁

@spacedyemeerkat Download the Tp-Link user manual and see, it may have a supplemental IOT ssid that you can use and setup at the same time similar to the EE Comp mode!

Oh I see, if you have a lot of devices that run only at 2.4Ghz which really is old the default is normally 5Ghz , But I have security cameras that are only compatible with 2.4 ghz so I do understand where your coming from, so what do you think you will do buy a 3rd party router or stick with the supplied isp router thats the catch 22 question is how long will it take the EE engineers to fix the Major issue or you decide your going to buy the router yes its time consuming to get all your devices connected but its worth it if you want a better stable connection

Just had an email from EE telling me they've closed my complaint about this issue. Weird, 'cos they haven't talked to me about it and it's not fixed, as far as I'm aware.

Yes i get them sometimes even when the service is not fixed they do this to make it look better I suppose.if the management team see alot of ongoing issues doesnt look good but I agree with u specially when you haven't spoke to them yet unless they know the issues will be fixed.soon

@rainman2871 wrote:... so this is to the EE engineers please rollback to a working firmware before the last buggy firmware updates you rolled out...
@rainman2871 - this problem is recent and the latest firmware isn't. That's enough to suspect that there's something else going on, and none of us really know what implications there are in rolling the firmware back (to a version that's presumably pretty old now!). It may well fix this issue, but what other problems might it introduce?
Some have had a temporary fix applied that sounds promising but sadly it looks like you missed out due to not having your hub online. Even with a firmware update, you'd likely need to reinstate the hub for a period of time longer than just 4 hours in the evening 🤔
