How can the semi-detatched house I'm moving to be capable of only 3mb/s, but the house next door can achieve 61mb/s?

What does BT Wholesale Broadband Availability Checker 's Address Checker estimate for your new addy? Post just the whole table and the line above it, blanking out your addy. Then do the same for house next door.

Most peculiar! For coming from same cab. your new house doesn't have VDSL & only has fixed rate ADSL while next door has VDSL & ADSL2+.
Do you have the phone no. of the new house? Can you use that in the BTw Checker?

If the phone number is (for example) a Sky one then the phone number checker will not yield any results nor quite often the address checker (not alway but hey-ho).
I suspect the line is via a non-BT group ISP at present. Just order your phone line from EE and by the following Friday the database will be updated to show exactly what you can get.

No I dont have the phone number.
I checked the address with sky and virgin who don't use BT cables and neither could offer me more than 3mb/s!

Hi @98psmith ,
I'm not aware that Virgin Media offers a service as low as 3 Mbps to consumers?
Some years ago I wanted to obtain a cheaper Virgin Media consumer cable service below 25 Mbps but they had essentially discontinued mainstream consumer services below 50 Mbps.
(I specifically say Virgin Media to consumers as Virgin Media Business mentions ADSL and ADSL2+ https://www.virginmediabusiness.co.uk/help-and-advice/products-and-services/adsl2-guide/ )

@mikeliuk : I believe that at exchanges where VM has no presence within the area that the exchange serves they will offer the existing BTw offering there, which will equate to what all the BT-based ISPs will be offering there.

Your right Mike. Virgin's answer was 'sorry our services arent available' which seems to me even slower than 3mb/s

@XRaySpeX VM haven't had a prescence in exchanges for quite a few years now.
