iphone 8 only works on 3G and home WiFi

I have been using an iphone 8 for a few weeks (Grade A re-furbished 64GB) but cannot get any signal whilst on 4G. My partner has a similar phone and is on EE but can get 4G in locations when I cannot, so this is not a location/coverage problem.

3G does not seem to be a problem.

Also, WiFi connection only works at my home address. When logged into WiFi at other locations (no problems with previous phone), I get no internet access even though settings indicate that the phone is connected.

Not sure if this is the same or different problem

Hello @KEB57

Welcome to the community

Firstly are you on PAYG, and your partner on pay-monthly? There are circumstances where this could make a difference to the coverage you receive.

Otherwise I would suggest swapping your SIMs between your two phones. So put your SIM in your partner's phone, and your partner's SIM in your phone. See whether the problem follows the SIM or remains with the device.

Hi Bristolian,

Thanks for the advice. We're both on monthly contracts.

I will swap SIMs and let you know the outcome

Hi @bristolian

Have swapped SIMs as suggested (at a place where I have previously had problems fully accessing WiFi).

My Wife's phone with my SIM had full access but for my phone + her SIM the previous problem persisted.

This suggests a phone rather than SIM problem.

On swapping the SIMs back, the WiFi access problem for my phone remained.

Whilst connected to this WiFi a WhatsApp message came through but the attached photo would not download. After turning off WiFi, the photo downloaded on 3G.

Also, with the SIMs back in their correct phones all call and internet functions on 3G and 4G are now working again.

Not sure what to do next and I would appreciate any further thoughts!

@KEB57  On your phone with your sim in the device go to Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings.  Your device will reboot and you’ll need to put your WiFi passwords back on the device when requested.

To contact EE Customer Services dial 150 From your EE mobile or 0800 956 6000 from any other phone.
