Hi, I'm looking at getting a Samsung watch, if I get the EE one will it connect to my android Sony Xperia 5 or does it have to be a Samsung phone for it to work?
Thanks

@paulh757 Samsung will only recommend that it is compatible with their devices but it does work with other devices how much does work with your device will be an unknown until you try it. You’ll need to download the wear app also. Try a google search on your device and the watch.

Hi @paulh757
Welcome to the community.
The Samsung Galaxy Watch 4G can only be connected to a compatible Samsung phone and plan on our EE network.
Full information can be found on our How do I use my Samsung Galaxy Watch 4G? Help page.

Leanne
Samsungs own website suggests the watch is compatible with other android devices running 5.0 or higher. If this is true then why are you giving false information?

Hi @paulh757,
Where did you see this on the Samsung website?
www.samsung.com/uk/wearables/galaxy-watch/ only lists Samsung phones in the compatibility list.
Thanks
James

Scroll down to Android phones and iOs phones.

Hi @paulh757,
That page includes the supported devices for the Bluetooth only watches. The 4G enabled watches can still only be used with the listed Samsung devices.
Thanks

Ok so now I'm confused. Does this mean that a 4g watch will receive calls/messages etc even if it's not bluetoothed to a phone as long as it's a compatible Samsung handset? But it will work with other handsets as long as it's connected via Bluetooth and kept in range?
Thanks

That's right @paulh757
You'll need a Samsung phone to use the standalone 4G connection on the watch.
