Why is there a £2.50 charge per month for itemised billing service?

I'd like to know please, why EE now charge a fee of £2.50 per billing month for the privilege of seeing one's itemisation on my bill. Surely this service "should be" provided for FREE. I know when I first joined EE (Over 20 plus years back now) it WAS for FREE, . . . . . .so why have they now decided to charge for a service which should automatically be provided as part of the monthly contract? Seems all large corporations are squeezing it's customers, for every penny they can.    😞

It's not just now. It's been like that for years.
