Virgin and esim

I currently have an unlocked iphone 11.  I am with Virgin on PAYG sim.

I'd like an esim with EE for my work number.

Can't find the prices for this anywhere and if that's even possible.

Can anyone help?  Also, do I have to go into a shop to do this?

Many thanks.

Hi @tamsin25

What type of plan is your EE work number on? There's no difference in price for an eSIM, it's just the same as those advertised in the shop, but eSIMS are only available on Contract or Business plans.

I am currently on a Virgin Sim, hence my question whether I could have an EE esim for my work number?  Is that possible?

So your work number is your Virgin PAYG SIM at the moment?

EE doesn't do eSIMs on PAYG.

If you think I helped please feel free to hit the "Thumbs Up" button below.

Aside from @tamsin25 current number being a Virgin Mobile number, I'm not sure what relevance Virgin has to this query.

It sounds like they're wanting to use a dual SIM device, with a Virgin Mobile physical SIM in one slot, and an EE SIM in the other, maybe? In which case, as others have already mentioned... an eSIM would work if they're looking at PAYM.

But not PAYG.

My query mentions Virgin as its my current carrier and I wanted to know if I could just have an eSIM with EE for my business number, and use my current provider (Virgin) for my personal line with my physical sim.

So to make clear I can get an EE esim for my business number, but not on PAYG, it would have to be pay monthly - is that correct?

Do I have to get these in an EE shop or can I get one online?

No that's fine, that's what I (and others probably) suspected.

If you bought your current phone from Virgin Mobile, there's a chance (depending how long you've had it), it could be SIM locked. If you've got one of the older Virgin SIMs, it's a rebadged EE one, but the newer "Purple" ones aren't.

But SIM locking aside, that's the only issue I can see. Yes, eSIMs can only be on PAYM but others are more familiar with the process for them.

My phone is unlocked as I bought it from Apple.

Do I have to get my esim from an EE shop or is there somewhere I can get it online?

You can sign up to a pay monthly contract online, over the phone or in store. Online or phone are best, but you will have to wait for delivery. It may be easier to do it over the phone and they can arrange for the eSIM to be sent at the same time.
