Unlock iPhone 6s to use on any Network

FOURTEEN DAYS AGO 
I requested EE by phone to Unlock my Apple Phone to enable me to use a different Network Provider's SIM.
I was told it would take UP TO TEN DAYS
It is now 14 days and all I get when I ring the EE support, in there is a BACKLOG due to COVID.
I need my phone working - urgently

@jim56 : Where did you yourself get this device itself originally? Did you buy it yourself new direct from EE or from a 3rd-party reseller or is it 2nd-hand? The unlocking process & costs are different. Was it originally on contract or PAYG? How old is it? EE won't unlock contract devices less than 6 months old.

I bought the iPhone 6 at a Carphone Warehouse section in PC World.
I have had it for several years with EE on a Monthly Pay Plan.
The reason I have changed Network provider is to save money on a
TV/Broadband/Telephone & Mobile package.
FOURTEEN DAYS seems far too long to me, leaving me unable to use my phone.
