Hi @Tonybrade
What you've done is bought a new phone with a new number and new contract. In order to keep your existing number, you should have bought an upgrade.
EE will not transfer numbers between contracts in this way, as that is what an upgrade does.
You need to contact the company you bought the new phone from, and (probably) return the phone to them, and buy it again as an upgrade.
There is a long-winded method to do this "unofficially", but it involves transferring your existing number to another network provider for a couple of days. So it depends how much of a faff that would be.

@Tonybrade : EE won't port nos between contracts. So you need to 1st port your existing no to another network's PAYG using a PAC from EE & then in reverse port it back to your new contract. This will also have the effect of cancelling your old contract.
You could alternatively "upgrade" your old contract to PAYG & then ask EE to transfer the no to your new contract.
