Stolen Tablet

Hi,

I got the new iPad 10.2 8th Generation 2020  on contract two months ago for college to help with my studies and honestly it was the best decision I made since it helped me a lot but unfortunately earlier today It got stolen. I was just about to read over some notes I had saved whilst laying in bed and the I realised my iPad wasn’t in my bag.  I was trying to track it but I guess the person who stole it place it on Airplane mode and may have hard reset it. I’ve done everything Apple says I should do when a device is missing but no avail so I’ve remotely erased the device which is also a step suggested by Apple of the steps before didn’t work.

I also didn’t get any sort of insurance on it because I couldn’t afford it and I also work specific amount of hours since am a full time student.

Am just here to ask what happens next? Do I still continue to pay for a device I don’t physically have anymore?

Hi @Kanny1234

Quick answer is yes you will still have to pay for your tablet contract.

You should check your home and content policy in case you have cover for your stolen tablet. Bet insurance seems cheap now.

You should block the tablet on your iCloud account and report it stolen to the police.

Thanks

EE standard opening hours are Monday to Friday, 8am to 9pm - Saturday and Sunday, 8am to 8pm.

I have no form of Insurance on the iPad.

And yeah I’ve blocked and remotely erased my iPad which means I can’t trace it anymore. The thief must be happy now 😞

and according to Apple’s website I’ll need the serial number of the iPad to give to the police and I don’t know that.

@Kanny1234  As long as it’s still on your Apple account the device can not be setup and used by anyone else.   Did you have a passcode on it to access the device?  If you did and they try to restore the device to factory settings it’ll still need your Apple ID and user name to set it up.

There is no point in stealing Apple devices as they can not be used without knowing the correct IDs/Passcodes.

the serial number is on the iPad box.

you also need to report this to EE to get the device blocked and your sim blocked.  You can request a replacement sim so you could at least use that if you have/get a device you can use it in.

I Threw the box away after I got it 2 months ago. so I don’t know the serial number and now I regret throwing it away.

and like I said I have remotely erased the stolen iPad using my iPhone I am using and unlinked my iCloud account from the iPad since that’s what it says on Apple’s website if the other steps doesn’t work so it means I can’t trace it anymore like it says on their website.

the next step was to call my network provider. so I tried calling EE before 11pm but no one picked up after 35 minutes of waiting so am guessing they’re closed but I’ll call them tomorrow morning.

Hi @Kanny1234

Thanks for coming to the community.

I'm sorry to hear that you're iPad has been stolen. I use mine all the time so I know totally get how gutted you must be.

@Chris_B is spot on, Apple devices are very secure so it's unlikely the person will be able to use the it. However we will need to blacklist the device and block the SIM from being used.

If you take a look on our What Should I Do If My Phone Is Lost Or Stolen page, you'll find loads of information about how to report this.

Thanks.

Chris.

Hi Christopher,

I’ve done everything it says on Apple’s website on missing iPhones and iPads but no avail which finally lead me to accept that I can’t trace my iPad anymore so I have remotely erased the  iPad and also unlinked my Apple/iCloud account from the device to prevent my account, especially Apple Pay from being used just as it says on the Apple website.

Am only yet to call EE this morning and let them know what happened.

@Kanny1234 I'm gutted for you 🙁

If you call us as soon as you can that would be great. That way we can make sure you're SIM can't be used.

Please come back after speaking to them and let us know how you get on.

Thanks.

Chris.

I just got off the phone with EE and they were able to give me the IMEI number for my stolen device so I can report it to the police. They also said the contract will run which hurts because I don’t have the device anymore .. I guess rules are rules 😞I won’t be getting a replacement device since I didn’t have insurance but I will be getting a replacement SIM card but I’ll need to use it in another device which I don’t have any. They also said I can add another device but I don’t want to otherwise my monthly charges will go up again and am only allowed 16 hours a week to work as a full time student so

yeah... hurts but it is what it is..

thanks for all your help EE community
