I’m off shore working in the North Sea. Notice I am picking up 4G. Will I be charged extra for using my data. I understand calls and normal txt will cost but will surfing the net, Netflix, WhatsApp etc cost me extra?

Could you please send the link with internet data packs add-ons for mariners, because when you enter to global link “maritime rates” there is just written “buy addon” for data, and no any link to do this.

Hi @SpleX,
Welcome to the EE Community. 🙂
You can view the available add-ons at the bottom of this page.
To purchase an add-on, just open your web browser when connected to a maritime network and you'll automatically be redirected to a web page where you can purchase a data add-on.
Hope this helps.

That is the problem that I and many others seamans even cannot connect firstly to this “Maritime network” (registering in Tampnet) and be redirected to buy a proper add-on as you said. We just using our ships internet to write this. But when you try to register with EE card in tampnet its not even possible

Hi @SpleX,
Are you trying to use a brand new EE SIM card? New SIM cards need to be used on the EE network in the UK before they can connect to a roaming network.

Yes i know about it, and all of my crew on ship and many others friends in North sea activated it on shore, it was warking without any problems in UK , but once we try to register n Tampnet, its not possible. It happened a week ago, because before this workers used these sim cards succesfully after installing Tampnet

If they're charging as a maritime network, then don't even bother trying to connect. You'll be charged an absolute fortune. Very disappointing from EE, and seems to be against the whole ethos of Tampnet.

Hi @SpleX,
If you are having issues connecting to Tampnet, please get in touch with Customer Care so our Tech Gurus can run through some diagnostics with you.
They'll be happy to help.

Dcos25. Here is hoping when the other two providers start up they wont be as disappointing. be a lot of people jumping over, I have been in touch with tampnet quite offten over the matter and they seem to be just as dissapointed with EE as it defeats the purpose, Although i have been infomred that tampnet have a meeting with EE in the coming weeks to see what they can do. trying to make a quick buck out of people as per.

Hi @James_B, I notice after loking back at comments that one comment has been removed from EE. Where it clearly stated that due to tampnet NOT using satellite signals we were able to use our standard date that we pay for on a monthly bases. Could you please explain why this has changed all of a sudden ? I may be wrong but what I am being told is that Maritime rates are so high due to direct satellite signals. If this is correct why can EE justify chargin us £10 for 10MB for a satellite product we are not using. I have been in touch with tampnet over the last week or so and they have infomed me that they are just as shocked as us on how EE have changed this all of a sudden. Hopefully something can be resolved with this matter, for example charging a fee for using your data allowance you already pay for. Its just poor on behalf of EE the fact on the tampet website it claims to be a roaming partner, When infact they have just dived on it and changed the tarrif to maritime to make extar cash, To make matters worse like mentiond in other comments above I can't pick up any kind of signal when on a platfrom or right next too one which has a mast or 4g server. This has been since last friday when EE made the cut off. i have checked alll my settings and tried a few diffrent things but still nothing.

@wilskin93 : You mean this statement? :

Tampnet uses physical base stations to extend 4G coverage, rather than a satellite connection like traditional maritime networks. This means you can use your standard data allowance.
It has not been removed. We don't do that w/out telling you. It is still present but further investigation by EE has shown it to be incorrect.
