Camelford Town New Mast

Hi EE, We’ve had an ongoing mast failure at Camelford Cornwall PL32 9PG affecting the whole town for some months. Over 3000 people rely solely on this one mast. There is no secondary back up transmitter for our town. EE have been incredibly helpful as this is a shared mast. There appears to be some service now operating now but with less power, the area of the new town to the south has full signal, to the old central and northern parts of town there is no signal still.

EE have been investigating the issue as a complaint raised (ref: ID15928706). However this not being discussed as a ‘complaint’ more of a call for help and assistance via the ‘complaints’ system which has led us here on recommendation of the Executive Team.

By working with EE agents we have discovered the mast is in fact on the south side of the town and in a dip. This is is the issue - the physical placement of the mast is negating any signal to the north being blocked by a hill. The residents and community and formal bodies all support the installation of a secondary new mast to the North to facilitate improved (anything is better than nothing) signal and network access across all networks via a new secondary shared mast.

We have been directed to this site as we the community of Camelford support and kindly request assistance from the team who monitor this forum in the hope we can work with you to plan, fund and approve a new secondary mast that can service the larger majority of the town that is currently without signal as this affects residents and businesses and tourists, guests and visitors to our town in their thousands.

The towns governing bodies and committees stand ready to engage fully in the assistance of EE to achieve this for Everyone Everywhere in Camelford.

With all sincere thanks,

Camelford Town

Just by means of some insight into the network planning process.

When a new network site is deemed as required, it needs various planning & legal consents in-place before it can be progressed to building. A willing landlord, legal agreement with that landlord, and planning permission from the local authority are all stages that need to be worked through before the technical solutions can be put in-place for power-supply & a connection back to EE's central network.

It's surprising how often what should potentially be a simple process, can be complicated by all manner of external factors - over which EE sometimes have no control.

Good luck in your quest to improve your local coverage.

Hi @CamelfordTown,

Welcome to the EE Community. 🙂

Thanks for sharing this detailed feedback about the issues you are experiencing in your area. I've passed it over to our network team for you.

James

I’d like to add my support for a new mast in Camelford. The problems with only one mast in this sort of terrain is that signals vary from good to patchy depending on where you are. The geography of the area means that we have had to suffer this variation for some time and a second mast would resolve the problem.
