North Sea off shore

I’m off shore working in the North Sea. Notice I am picking up 4G. Will I be charged extra for using my data. I understand calls and normal txt will cost but will surfing the net, Netflix, WhatsApp etc cost me extra?

Hi @Discos5,

Welcome to the EE Community. 🙂

If your friends are using their standard allowances, they must be receiving signal from a land based network.

James

Within the EU, your UK allowance currently applies, including data.

Outside the EU, calls, texts & data will always be chargeable - but you can't use data without having an add-on.

Maritime, shipping & air-based networks are always classed as non-EU.

These replies have been a bit misleading, we have all been able to access the signal with our pay as you go SIM cards which has data, and none of us have purchased “add on bundles”.

data working great with 4G and it’s treating it like we are abroad with roaming (which I believe doesn’t charge you extra in most countries )

Hi @Discos5,

Which network are you connected to?

Thanks

James

@Discos5 : Then you must be fairly near land & are connecting to an EU based network, for which UK rates & usage applies.

Hello, I’m with EE but it connects to Tampnet and we got a message from

EE via text giving us the news we are connected.

we are roughly 100 miles from

Hi @Discos5,

Tampnet uses physical base stations to extend 4G coverage, rather than a satellite connection like traditional maritime networks. This means you can use your standard data allowance.

Sorry for any confusion caused.

James

I also work in the North Sea, but for some reason I'm unable to connect to the Tampnet network. I'm on PAYG with a data pack and credit on my account. I have colleagues that are able to connect, both on contact and PAYG. I can find the Tampnet network if I search manually, but it won't allow me to connect? Also, I contacted Tampnet and they have told me that ee has just changed their pricing on the network and I should receive an SMS, but so far nothing??

I have same problem, manually I can find Tampnet 4G, but can't register (connect) to this network

Hi @Dcos25 and @Nikolaos.

Do you get any kind of error message when connecting to this network?

Can you try restarting your phone and manually connecting again?

Jon
