New PAYG handset - transferring contacts etc

Hi, I need to buy a new handset (my current one is so old I cannot download the NHS Covid app) but want to keep my existing PAYG pay weekly tariff.  Can I transfer my sim and existing sd card to transfer my existing number, contacts, music and photos etc easily myself?  Last time upgraded my handset I bought in store and a lovely assistant transferred everything for me.  As things are and I still trying to shield I am reluctant to go to a store.  Many thanks

Yes, you can just move them across if they fit.

ISPs: 1999: Freeserve 48K Dial-Up > 2005: Wanadoo 1 Meg BB > 2007: Orange 2 Meg BB > 2008: Orange 8 Meg LLU > 2010: Orange 16 Meg LLU > 2011: Orange 20 Meg WBC > 2014: EE 20 Meg WBC > 2020: EE 40 Meg FTTC > 2022:EE 80 Meg FTTC SoGEA > 2025 EE 150 Meg FTTP

HI,

Thank you for your reply.  Sorry I must not have been very clear with my question though.  I am asking How to do transfer the contacts etc. not IF it can be done, I know it can, but I don't know how as previously this has been done for me when purchasing a new handset in an EE store.

Thank you anyway.

Amanda

What phones are you moving between?

Hi, Currently I have a Huawei SCL L01.  I am looking for something with a reasonable camera and will run the NHS Covid app as a minimum.  Have been looking at PAYG phones in EE Shop around £100 - £150 mark.

I currently have a £1 per week plan which I would like to retain as this serves me very well.  Many thanks

Hi @HambletonA

I hope having a nice weekend 😊

We would need to know what phone your new one is before advising how to transfer data such as contacts.

The process is usually fairly simple if you have backed up your data online. Is that something you've done before?

Thanks

Chris

Hi Chris,  thank you for your reply.  I tried to back up my data a few days ago, apparently the app I previously used was no longer available and so I could not back up my phone (on my new computer, old one has died) .  That was when I finally relented and accepted I needed to buy a new phone! - I am thinking of the Samsung galaxy A12. or the A02s.

Many thanks

@HambletonA Both those phones sound perfect for what you need to do.

You should be able to use an app called Smart Switch to transfer the data. All you would need to do is download and install the app on both phone, then follow the instructions.

Thanks

Chris

Thanks Chris,

I have managed to download the app to my old phone so I am half way there.

Cheers
