My speeds live up to the estimated speeds (give or take a few Mb), but I wondered why my speeds are so low when people next door can get double my speeds and some people I know can get nearly triple in the same area. Is there a way I can improve this?

Welcome to EE's Home Broadband Forum.

If you would like help with your BB speed or connection issues, please would you carry out the following steps for starters, which will enable us to diagnose the problem and advise you further. Do not restart your router to do these tests:

1. Post your full router stats:

  • For a BrightBox: login and go to Advanced Settings/ System/ DSL Status. Also post 'System Uptime' from top of System Log page.
  • For a SmartHub: login and go to Advanced Settings/ Technical Log/ Information. Obscure your names & any numbers in the BB Username & also the SSIDs.

Full router stats are key to any speed & connection issues.

2. What does BT Wholesale Broadband Availability Checker estimate for your phone number? Post just the whole table and the line above it, blanking out your phone number. If it doesn't recognise your phone number or you don't have one, use the Address Checker, not the Postcode Checker.

3. Now do the same for your neighbour's address if you don't know their landline no.

But why did you not post the requested information?

No, sorry, it doesn't help! EE estimates tell me nowt that you haven't already told me. What I asked for would do.

You (#27 I presume) must be further from the cab. than your neighbour. As your estimate range is only 35 - 54 Meg (neighbour has 41 - 66 Meg), EE in its wisdom has decided to only offer you its 40 Meg capped BB Fibre, as it feels you are unlikely to exceed the cap & so not offer you its uncapped BB Fibre Plus.

None of this matters as your actual speed is only 27 Meg & therefore you would be getting exactly the same on the uncapped BB Fibre Plus.

27 Meg on your line is well below expected & even below BTw's Handback Threshold.

What are all EE's estimated speeds which you'll find in your MyEE for BB under "Your BB speed"?
