My Xperia 1 received its latest update yesterday that was a major one pushing it from Android 10 to 11.
Since the upgrade, I've had to wait anything upwards of half an hour for SMS messages to arrive, when they used to be received within a second.

This is extremely inconvenient because today I have already been locked out of two different services that I use every day because their two factor authentication uses SMS and it times out after I have to wait for far too long for the SMS message

Hi and welcome to the community, @peda.
Is it just the two factor SMS messages that are taking a while to come through? Have you tried restarting your device?

All SMS messages. I'm using the stock Messages app. And it's just inbound
that are delayed. I tried sending texts to my partner and they got them in
less than a second. When they replied to me, I didn't receive those
responses for over 5 minutes.
I have restarted many times. I have made sure my apps are up to date on
Play Store. I have made sure there are no more updates in my phone's
settings. I have downloaded settings for MMS and Internet in my Network and
Internet settings.
I am all out of ideas for how to proceed so I can receive SMS messages
instantly like I used to before the update.

If you send a text message to yourself, does this arrive instantly?
Also as general advice - you've posted your mobile number on a public forum. That's an open invitation for spammers and suchlike to use those details 😉

oh yeah look at that, thanks. I did a quick reply with my email but it added my email signature 😕
Sending is fine. As I said above I sent an SMS to my partner and they got it within a second. Tried a couple of times. Every time they messaged me though it was a long wait (5-10 minutes). Tried the two-factor enables pages again and they also took ages. One of them took almost a whole hour to arrive.

Is you partner on EE, @peda?
The test that @bristolian mentioned would help us determine if there is a delay for your incoming messages coming through the EE message centre.

Oh yes, the message I sent to myself arrived immediately (can confirm I can both see the sent and received message in the thread).
As the issue appeared immediately following the Android 11 update for my Xperia 1 I wouldn't have suspected the EE message centre to be a problem, but of course it was worth checking.

Since that's gone through, I don't think there are any service problems that could be causing the delays from our end, @peda.
You could try backing up your phone and restoring it back to factory settings. This is usually recommended if you think there may be a software problem after updating the software.

Alrighty, I'll do that when I have time and will respond or mark solution if that's helped
