I finished my contract with EE over 2 years ago as I moved abroad but kept the sim card/number yo use it for my online banking.
It now no longer works and when i log into my account it says the account is closed. Is this just because the account has not been used in so long or because there is an outstanding payment i don't know about? It was working less than a week ago.

You cancelled your contract 2 years ago and had it moved to PAYG?
If so, it's gone into hibernation after at least 6 months of no chargeable use.

I think @XRaySpeX could be right. You can find some information on our pay as you go hibernation article.
There's a chance we may be able to reconnect it, if it's only happened recently.
