5G Data SIM for iPad 12.9 2021

Posted this in the Apple forum, but trying here too.

I have a 4G data SIM in my iPad 12.9 2021 and i want to upgrade it to 5G. I've spoken to several people on the chat and get differing answers. Can someone clarify the following please

  • As far as pure data SIMs are concerned, only the ones that come with smart benefits are 5G, an all the other non-smart benefit ones are 4G only?
  • I can purchase a 5G phone SIM and use it in my iPad without issue (for example there are 5G phone SIMs without smart benefits)
  • Either of the above would have to be processed as an additional line, and I'd have to cancel my existing iPad data SIM
  • On ordering either of the above, I wouldn't have access to an eSIM to dowonload immediatly, I'd have to wait for a physical SIM to be delivered and then order a "replacement" SIM as eSIM

Thanks.

Yes, sorry, I missed data SIMs with Smart benefits 1st time round.

Yes, either would do but I would tend to go for a phone SIM cuz:

  1. They tend to be cheaper, byte for byte.
  2. They tend to be bigger, even up to "Unlimited" data.
  3. You can be sure they are 5G, with not the uncertainty of data SIMs.

Excellent, thanks for you help. Will look to get a phone SIM, probably the 10GB for £12 as I have unlimited on my phone so can gift data.
