Posted this in the Apple forum, but trying here too.
I have a 4G data SIM in my iPad 12.9 2021 and i want to upgrade it to 5G. I've spoken to several people on the chat and get differing answers. Can someone clarify the following please
- As far as pure data SIMs are concerned, only the ones that come with smart benefits are 5G, an all the other non-smart benefit ones are 4G only?
- I can purchase a 5G phone SIM and use it in my iPad without issue (for example there are 5G phone SIMs without smart benefits)
- Either of the above would have to be processed as an additional line, and I'd have to cancel my existing iPad data SIM
- On ordering either of the above, I wouldn't have access to an eSIM to dowonload immediatly, I'd have to wait for a physical SIM to be delivered and then order a "replacement" SIM as eSIM
Thanks.

Hi
Can someone with absolute certainty tell me what SIM I need for 5G on my iPad Pro 2021? I seem to get conflicting reports that I need a phone SIM which is 5G.... or do I need the data SIM (that doesn't mention 5G)
For example the 10GB phone SIM is £12 with 10% loyalty, and the 10GB data SIM is £11.70.
In addition, whatever one I need, will I have access to the eSIM in the EE app to configure the service on my device soon after purchase?
Thanks
EDIT: This is an unlocked iPad bought direct from Apple

Odd ... I can't see that on the Data SIM webpage.
Guess I'll call EE, I also want to know if I can purchase this as an eSIM, or if it will "upgrade" mu currently installed physical SIM
I read you can download eSIMs from the EE app.

OK So had another chat sessions with someone today .... EE really need to sort their info out.
I asked about a 5G SIM for my iPad and was offered a 5G SIM with 10GB and 1 smart benefit for £18. I said that this was high and why can I see data SIMs for 4GB @ £7.70 and 10GB @ £11.70. I was told these are 4G data SIMs. I was then pushed to purchase which I didn't like. However, I asked where on the site I can find 5G data SIMs, and after some backwards and forwards without an actual answer, I asked if only the data SIMs with smart benefits were 5G and the others 4G, the agent said yes. So, that's quite misleading for starters.
I then asked if I could put a phone SIM in my iPad, and I was told yes, so assume there's no contract issues there.... and a 5G phone SIM is 4GB @ £10 and 10GB @ £12.
What a mess .... Think I'll just get the 10GB @ £12 phone SIM.

Data SIMs don't come with Smart benefits; only phone SIMs do.
Yes, you may put any SIM in any device. Net Neutrality rules dictate that EE can't stop you doing that.

- Sorry, I was wrong on that. There are data SIMs with Smart benefits but I can't vouch that they are 5G plans..
- As I already told you, you may use a phone SIM in a tablet.
- Yes.
- Correct.

I appreciate you are a Grand Master on here, but I'd also appreciate it if you would cut the attitude, thanks.
As I've shown you on the link, that appears to show Data SIM plans with Smart Benefits.
The page is titled DATA SIM PLANS, and shows a variety of plans, including those with Smart Benefits. So, you can understand the confusion.
If I want to purchase a 5G data plan for my iPad, what exactly am I needing to buy. This should be quite simple, yes?
