4G WIFI Mini Device log shows wrong dates

WiffyWIFI

My 4Gee mini wifi shows the date as 1980 on all entries relating to starting. it then has the correct dates for successfully logging in. Is this normal?

I have tried to reset but its the same. also the log doesn't erase on doing the reset using the button in the back cover. is there a factory reset that erases everything.

here's a couple of the incorrect entries:

06/01/80 06:344GEE WiFi Mini started.
06/01/80 06:254GEE WiFi Mini started.
06/01/80 06:174GEE WiFi Mini started.
06/01/80 06:124GEE WiFi Mini started.
06/01/80 00:004GEE WiFi Mini started.
06/01/80 23:274GEE WiFi Mini started.
06/01/80 23:244GEE WiFi Mini started.
06/01/80 21:584GEE WiFi Mini started.
06/01/80 20:364GEE WiFi Mini started.
06/01/80 15:254GEE WiFi Mini started.

Yes, this is typical. Your mobile router does not remember the time & date itself. So when you reboot it it reverts to a sort of computer industry Time 0, usually 01/01/1980. Then once it gets on the Net it goes & talks to an NTP Time Server to get the correct current time & date. I don't understand why your reboot should take "5 days"; it should take a matter of mins.

Thanks for your help, as long as its normal i guess. i took the battery out overnight and the device log was deleted. When I just checked it i got this:

06/01/80 00:004GEE WiFi Mini started.

Im not sure why but it seems to like to start on the 6th.

So the button inside the back of the device and the "factory data reset " inside the the ui do the same thing?

Yes, my 4GEE WiFi Mini starts up at the same date for some reason.

The button on the front outside is just a reboot. I thought there was a Factory Reset pinhole under the battery inside but I can't find it.

the pin hole is next to the battery but its more like a square button!

ahh ok so yours shows 06/01/80 as log in date as well? at least i know its not just something with my one if yours does this too.

Hi @WiffyWIFI ,

1980-01-06 (most likely 00:00) is the epoch time for some Qualcomm devices which likely explains what you see. All current computers measure time from some epoch time plus time increments, in some unit, stored as an integer.

The reason you see the epoch time instead of the current time is that the device has not yet updated/synchronized its clock to the current time.

I can't see a square Reset button anywhere near the battery. Can you post an image of it?

With the battery cover off and the text the correct way as you look at it on the left of the battery is a recessed square. R for reset is in the plastic just below. So its not the usual pin hole.

Ah, so there is. I missed it. Thanks 🙂 !
