4G Router Using Up Data

denewilliams

Hi All

Bit of strange one this but I recently purchased a Hauwei B535 4G router and Poynting external aerial for our holiday home in the wilds of Cornwall.

Works fine except it keeps using data up off my SIM card even when we're not there! I'm using the SIM out of my iPad and it starts off with, lets say, 1Gb on it and when we get back from a walk along the beach it's down to 800mb! I can see there's nothing connected to it, switched off auto updates, changed passwords etc and yes already joked to colleagues about the China security thing!

Is it to do with the type of SIM perhaps? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Hi @denewilliams,

Welcome to the EE Community. 🙂

Your router shouldn't use any data when no devices are connected to it.

Could there have been a slight delay in your data allowance updating after the last use?

Thanks

James

Hi James

No I don't think so. I was using the App on my phone to monitor the usage and could see something using the data on that sim. I guess an unlimited package is the way to go anyway but it has baffled me completely.

I am also getting a privacy warning on my iPhone and iPad wifi setting when I connect to the router.
