4G Router Address Conflict

4GEETont
Explorer

Hi all, I'm setting up my new 4GEE mini and when I enter the URL: http://192.168.1.1 into my browser, it takes me to my neighbour's TalkTalk WiFi router login screen. Is this because they both have the same address and there's a greater signal from the TalkTalk router, or because the router address is wrong?

Hi @4GEETont

It sounds like you are connected to their wifi. If you go to select the wifi SSID on your device, you should see your one listed, and be able to select it then be able to connect to your 4Gee mini.

Thank you, it's not so much connecting to the WiFi that I'd like to achieve right now, it's accessing the user settings on the router itself. I've just asked them about their router and it turns out their TalkTalk router has exactly the same address as my EE one.

Hi @4GEETont ,

The IP address you have quoted is a private address which is not accessible over the internet. The symptoms you are describing are because you are connected to the wrong WiFi router.

Imagine you want to change the channels on your TV to let your child watch some cartoons so you walk up and mess around with it but the child is still watching the news. You find that you are in someone else's house and you need to first ensure you are inside your own house and walk up to your own TV and not someone else's TV.

To access the settings on your own router you 1st need to be connected to it. At the mo' it seems you are connected to your neighbour's router's SSID by WiFi. You need to disconnect from their router's SSID & then connect to your own router's SSID.
