@Adlington Because the advertiser paid to have their advertising shown and watched and not skipped past.

Because you are watching an itv channel recording made in IP mode. Itv have made this a condition of supplying their channels to EETV in IP Mode, and yes, it’s because they want you to watch their adverts.
Only the itv channels do this, and only in IP Mode. If you can plug an aerial into your EETV box, and then reset it, you will move to Aerial Mode, and you will not have this issue.
Of course, you need a TV aerial to do this, and I am aware you might not have this option open to you.
In which case, an alternative approach is to subscribe to itvX Premium and watch their programmes on catchup instead of recording them. This will likewise skip the adverts.

Hello Midnight Voice. Thank you for your explanation. I've just succumbed to EE from BT, and miss certain elements! Having paid for EE services, I'm reluctant to pay more for ITV premium, so I can skip through the ads! It's a park of recording ITV programs. Anyhoo, you've kindly offered a solution and I can use an aerial. Wasn't sure what the differences would be, between using WiFi or aerial, when I was setting up the box, but now I know one!!! Thanks again
