Hi

I want to connect my TV Box Mini to my bedroom TV bit it only has Scart sockets.   I have looked at HDMI to Scart converters but will these work with TV Box Mini?  How can I do this please.

Hi

Well I tried what you suggested today .  The frame match was already turned off.  I changed the frame rate to 720p which was the lowest setting and the food news is it all worked on my old Panasonic bedroom TV.   I  really appreciate your help ......your a star.  I might and change the setting to 1080i and see if that works as that might improve the picture, although it's excellent as it is.

Once again, many thanks.

Yes, these work, but don’t get one that is just a wire, make sure it’s a little box.

It will come with simple instructions.

Whats the make and model of your TV, though? We should double-check it really doesn’t have HDMI lurking somewhere.

Thanks for your reply  .

The TV is a Panasonic TX-32LXD60.  It does have HDMI sockets next to the scary sockets but can't get the TV box mini to work through those HDMI as I guess it's old tech so I thought the scary sockets would work .

Your 2006 HD Ready TV should support 720p and 1080i, which the Box Mini should go down to, but maybe it can’t negotiate with such an early HDMI version.

Be interesting to try plugging the box in to one of those ports with its power lead pulled out though, then reconnecting it to see if you can see anything at all as the box powers up through 576i.

But make sure that any HDMI to SCART converter you buy can bust 720p down to 560p or lower, as you can’t set the Box Mini any lower than that.

Depends what’s in your piggy bank, but you might want to treat yourself to a new bedroom TV. Anything from £120 up, 24” up if size is an issue, though generally the more you pay, and the bigger, the better.

Hi

Thanks for your reply.  I tried plugging in the power cord after connecting the HDMI cable.  I tried that with both HDMI sockets on the TV.  It goes the sequence of choosing preferred area and so on and then says it's loading available channels (withe the 3 bouncing balls) but then the screen goes blank and just shows which TV socket I'm plugged into .

Well thanks for trying to help.  Maybe a new TV is the best way

@RobPadd

Ah, so you can see the box make its initial run up over HDMI.

Have you got a more recent, and more capable, TV downstairs? If so, I would take the Box Mini downstairs and try it on that TV, see what Settings/Picture & Sound says for HDMI Display, drop that to 720p, turn off HDMI Frame Rate Matching, which your bedroom TV may not understand.

Then try it again upstairs. Might be a forlorn hope, but shouldn’t be too difficult to try.

Please let us know what the two settings were, and whether or not things are now working with the suggested changes.

OK.  I'm a bit busy with other things right now but I will try your suggestions and let you know the results.  Many thanks for your support.

Hi

Ok, so I have thought about your suggestions but the only other TV I have is downstairs and the  EE  BOX PRO is plugged into to it with the EE HDMI cable.    This TV has two HDMI sockets so I wondering if I could plug the mini into the spare socket (it has a Sky box connected which I could temporally remove) , without upsetting the TV or EE BOX PRO box setting?

@RobPadd

Yes, that would work. I have two YouView boxes connected to our main TV, and they don’t fight at all.

In the old days, the remote for a YouView box would affect all the YouView boxes in line of sight, but with the new Bluetooth remotes on the Box Pro and Box Mini, each one keeps itself to itself.

(So make sure to bring the remote for the Box Mini along with it, as it will ignore the Box Pro remote if you try to use that. And make sure you keep them separated and know which is which, as we humans can’t tell them apart just by looking).
