EETV vs SKY

Apologies if the answer to this is already on the forum - I am sure it is but I couldn't find it through the search function

We recently got EE broadband - about to switch mobiles to EE too and that got me looking at the TV packages

We currently have everything that SKY can offer, multiform (3 spare Mini boxes) and HD

From what I can see, the EETV Full Works package replicates this (with the box add-ons) plus gives Netflix (I can upgrade to Premium which is good) and TNT Sports

This feels like a good deal - albeit countered by the hassle of having to change boxes

The bit i am slightly wary of though is that nowhere can I find a comparison of what is or isn't included in the EE Full Works package (appreciate it is made up of a number of NOW packages) versus what I get with SKY - not sure the EE TV pages are overly useful in this regard

I tried googling but haven't found anything quite so specific so if anyone knows where that might exist could they point me to it?

Also - as someone who uses the various SKY Apps and has a chunk of purchased SKY movies, does EE TV have similar Apps so you can view while mobile?

Thanks in advance!

Nick

Check out the list here of what channels are included: https://ee.co.uk/help/tv-sport/manage-use/channel-guide

It is often easier to see what is available on demand on the NOW website.

No single destination like Sky Go in terms of app access, you use the EE TV app (including purchases), NOW app and Discovery+ mainly, but all 3 offer better picture quality.

Biggest change from Sky Q is that only one box records with EE TV and the multiroom boxes cannot access those recordings. It’s a “live TV and on demand experience”, more like Sky Stream but less refined (and of course you can at least record somewhere if you want).

If you ditch the aerial, itv will not allow you to skip the ads in IP mode, which is the only mode available on the mini boxes. No voice control unless you take an Apple TV 4K.

No Disney+ on the EE TV boxes, Apple TV+ doesn’t support HDR, Paramount+ is HD only, some apps link to Watchlist, others don’t and the main TV Box Pro uses “accurate recording” which should be an offence under the trades description act, because (apart from Channels 1 - 5), it often isn’t and cuts the end off of recordings. YMMV.

It isn’t as polished as Sky but it isn’t intended to be. Hope this helps.

This link shows you everything you get on Full Works (scroll down to the block images for Sport and Big Sport, and then right for Full Works, no wonder you couldn’t find it)

You have to do your own comparison with Sky, since EETV, as a matter of policy, do not make such comparisons.

Sky has a whole bunch of niche channels that EETV does not. The main coming-from-Sky gripes are two in number; firstly that if you take the Box Pro as your main box, so you can record and/or have the full set of OTA Freeview channels, it doesn’t carry the Disney+ app. It’s fairly easy to remedy that with Disney+ on another device, but it’s a thing to know. The second thing to know is that EETV recording is siloed - you can’t watch something you have recorded on anything other than the box you recorded it on. This is different from Sky, which lets you watch on their mini devices.

Or you can take an EETV AppleTV box; this has an EETV app which largely replicates what EETV does on the Box Pro, but you can’t record at all, and it only carries a selection of Freeview channels, supplied over the internet by EETV. This is called IP Mode, and comes into its own when you don’t have a TV aerial. (The Box Pro can also operate in this mode if you don’t have a TV aerial). The AppleTV box, as it has all the apps of a standard AppleTV as well as the special EETV one, does have Disney+.

And yes, EETV does have a content store, where you can purchase movies for download, to watch on the go.

EETV currently does not yet support Now UltraBoost, for movies and programmes in UHD, but it’s coming.

Anything else I can tell you?

@Nick_2811 @Profile closed the large variance in monthly cost will offset the weaknesses with what sky offer. You get what you pay for as they say.

There are occasional updates to improve the user experience but you wont know what they are till they happen.

There is an EE store for movie and TV rental and purchases and there is no sky go as such. Live channels via the EE TV app are limited to the sports, Asian and discovery channel. You will need to use the now and PSB apps for live streams of the other channels.

Ad skipping is just excluded with the itv channels in IP mode.

Thank you everyone for your replies - very helpful

This was good to know about the limitations of multi room. That is an advantage of SKY but think I could live with it.
