EETV Extras HD & 4K or Now Boost - what's the difference?

Since the introduction of HBO Max, I watch HBO content via the HBO app on my EETV Apple TV Box instead of the Now app as full 1080p HD comes as standard via the HBO app.

I don't subscribe to any sports channels or content, so was curious to know what the difference is between Now Boost and the HD & 4K extras that are available in this set up?

I'm assuming the HD & 4K extra provides access to both the HD linear SKY/ Now channels via the EETV app on the TV box, as well as the HD content within the Now app itself?

I guess I'm asking is one better than the other or if there's no difference if TNT Sport is out of the equation. Just find it confusing as to why 2 different options are offered by EE for essentially the same thing (again, assuming that it is!) ?

Thanks in advance...!

If your just subscribing to Entertainment channels with no TNT sport channels, there is no difference currently in the add ons.

No one outside EE knows if this will change in the future.

Channel packages change often.  The HD & 4K add-on had more meaning in the past, where it would add HD/UHD for Sports, discovery, and some others.

At the moment, I can't see any channels it'd add HD.

Now Boost is a NOW membership addon .- available on Now memberships bought direct with NOW and other partners like EE TV that include or sell  Now memberships in their packages.

EETV HD/4K add on for EETV  packages is  solely an EETV product addon that gave access to  subscription HD/4K linear channels available on the EETV (Youview) boxes and to  HD (and in the early days 4k) catchup on the  box EETV app.

EE seem to have adopted a policy of "including" the EETV HD/4K addon  in the Sport/Big Sport/Full Works packages and not making it available for order on the Entertainment with Netflix  or Big Entertainment packages (source EE Home Price Guide .. current latest version 26 June2026)..

It would be beneficial if EETV was a consistent product across  the two BT Group companies. that offer it  Maybe that will happen.

Hold that thought

Ignore NowTV, which I don't have via EE. I just have Sport which I largely watch on HBO Max as the Apple TV service doesn't include channel 465.

I'm paying for the HD and 4K add-on. In the past I've ignored it as I get a discount on Sport which was largely the same. But since the latest price increases the discount is less than the HD and 4K cost. Am I right in thinking that the HD and 4K add-on cost gets me nothing?

For sport the add on is now included in the package by default if you have taken it since the package change last year, so no additional bolt on is required.

@Richardr66  if you have TNT Sports on HBO Max included within your package - (which EE TV Sport packages do include) then when using the HBO Max app  to view TNT Sports then  TNT Sports 1, 2, 3, and 4 would be available in full HD 1080p resolution.and you would have access to the UHD (TNT Sports Ultimate) stream ,  (Having or not having the EETV HD/4k addon does not change that). As you mention that you currently use the HBO Max app you will be aware that the TNT Sport Ultimate channel is not specifically listed in the channels carousel within the Sports section of the HBO Max app but you can find the UHD stream if you look hard enough.

So given that you seem to be using the Apple 4K EETV  box and appear to be happily using the HBO Max app for TNT Sports in your scenario the EETV HD/4K add on isn't really giving you any extras that you currently are using.

A selection of  TNT Sports catchup is also available (normally adfree) via the EE TV app , Some devices (eg the EETV  (Youview)  boxes including the Box Pro have HD and SD content versions and the EETV HD/4K  addon  is required to watch that on  demand TNT Sports in HD. Also on those recordable EETV boxes the users may be wishing to make  TNT recordings and having the EETV HD/4k addon allows them to record (as well as view) those live programmes in HD  (TNT Sports 1-10) and it in 4k (TNT Sports Ultimate).  So the addon is probably  of more value if you were using the EE TV Box Pro.
