EE tv box pro not recording in HD?

Hi, new to the forum and recently subscribed to ee tv. I have an ee tv box pro. All good so far, set was OK and all seems to be working as it should. However, I noticed something with recording programmes.

I can watch all programmes is HD however, when I want to record a programme that is in HD, I don't think it's recording in HD.

Example is ITV1 watching in HD (says it is when you hit the info button), the programmes is in HD so hit the record button. Go into the home menu to the recording, highlight the recording and press the info button and, on the right hand side of the screen, there's only the white icon with 's' in it, no HD icon.  I can add programmes to watch later to the 'mytv' section which are in HD and low and behold the white icon with 'HD' is there alongside the 's' icon.

The box is connected to the Internet via ethernet only, and we have BT full fibre 900. There are no other recordings on the box. Everything else seems to be working fine.

Is there something I'm doing wrong?

@MrMeadster

Something strange there; this is what I get from a recording of  itvHD on channel 103 on my Box Pro in Aerial Mode:-

 And you will notice that while it doesn’t say HD on the right, it does say it on the left [S,AD,HD] S1 Ep3.

But none of your examples show quite the same screen as I have, from a partial recording that I have started, stopped, and then chosen Info while playing it. I see one of your screenshots shows ‘S7 Ep 33’, but cuts off whatever might be to the left of that, which might say HD, though.

I’ve tried the extended Info display, as above, but while it repeats the [HD] in the Primary Title and the Subtitle, and confirms the channel was ITV1 HD, it doesn’t seem to add anything else re HD.

Ignore the icon - what's the quality of the picture?

The box records the exact stream - it doesn't convert or downgrade the quality. If you recorded it from an HD channel then it's an HD recording.

The only exception is BBC channels when the TV Box is in internet mode - for this, the programme is streamed from BBC iPlayer, so will vary in quality according to broadband conditions.

While it should be fairly easy to tell SD from HD, we should not lose sight of the fact that while the recording may be exactly what was streamed, the replay is subject to the tender mercies of the upscaling to 4K that the box or the TV does if watched on a UHD set.

(A similar problem on the audio side plagues those whose AV amps aren’t reporting Atmos when their owners think they should be, as the owners can’t actually tell by listening 😛)

Hey @Midnight_Voice I think I'm a dum a** our subscription is for TNT sports only. Will double check but I have a feeling that HD like sky is an extra which could explain that, we have not subscribed. Will check. Although if that's the case, why can I watch itv in HD? Is that because that's the only broadcast medium for itv

@DarrenDev aaaaahhhhhh. Well that makes sense. Got me confused with what I can record and what I can add to the 'mytv' with the icons. All good then if that's the case and thank you.

@MrMeadster

Freeview channels go out variously in SD and HD, in Aerial Mode, as do the internet feeds in IP Mode, where HD is actually more prevalent. And your basic EETV subscription lets you have these, and allows a Box Pro to record them.

For the additional subscription apps, though, from Now, TNT, Discovery+ and Netflix, getting these in HD requires an additional subscription.

Due to the vagaries of EETV pricing, I think I am in the odd position of having the HD upgrade for TNT, while not actually having TNT to begin with 😛
