Today I received a call on purportedly 020 4538 9426 from purportedly John purportedly from EE. He asked how I was today and if I wanted a 30 percent discount. The man was speaking with a South Asian accent in what sounded like a call centre.
He asked me to tell him how much I was paying each month so that I could identify myself. I declined and as he was working for EE asked him to tell me how much I was paying. He said that he needed to know to take me through security.
I declined again and he rang off.
I subsequently called 150 and reported this incident to EE. The guy I spoke to confirmed that EE had not contacted me today and that the call was a scam.
I am publishing this to the community so that other are aware of this scam.
Solved! See the answer below or view the solution in context.

@Grantbett to gain access to your EE account and order what ever they like. They’ll pretend to offer you a deal on a device and it’ll be to good to pass up so you agree. What happens now is a different device is ordered and they’ll message you saying it’s the wrong device ( probably by what’s apps ) and give you an address to return that device. It’ll not go back to EE but to there address and you’ll have posted it to them. You’re now left with payment for that device. They also can also request a replacement sim and get that sim with your number so anything that your number is apart off is now potentially under threat ie your bank account.
I highly recommend you change your EE account password to something more secure to be safe.

Sat 3rd January and I was wakened by a call, saying they were from EE offering me this 30% discount. Bunch of people from India prattling on so fast I couldn't understand what they were saying. It got so bad I eventually put down the phone. Thank goodness my husband insisted that I cut it short.

I am sorry to hear that this call disturbed you.
I would recommend reporting it by completing this online form.
This will then be sent over to the relevant team who can investigate this further.

Hi @traceclip.
We have no access to be able to complete this for you.
It sounds like you have also been provided with an alternative way to report it, thanks for doing this.
Katie 🙂

Jan '26 - Similar call received from 020 4630 5845.
Asked me if I was happy with EE's service, signal, etc., then (despite positive answer) informed me that due to complaints of poor signal and service, selected Customers were being offered a 30% discount. All the hallmarks of a scam, but I went with it to keep them busy for a while.
Transferred to another chap who congratulated me on being eligible for the offer, then the call dropped - presumably whatever system was tunneling through a London number from a remote call centre wasn't too stable! Didn't even get to the fun bit of trying to ask them to pass my security checks for peace of mind... 🙂
Number passed to 7726.
