Possible Scam? Cold callfrom 0204 number claiming to be EE

MackD

Called out of the blue just now from a chap possibly from an call centre based in the far east. He claimed to be from EE & offering me a discount on my EE account. He got quite tetchy when I wouldn't explain why I wasn't interested! I got bored and hung up -  now wish I hadn't answered as I normally don't if I don't recognise the number, although I sometimes do if the number is withheld as that is mostly the NHS way...

It seems this is a common scam having searched for similar so just an FYI really 🙂

Hi @BlueSkies786

Welcome to our community.

You can find a list of all of our numbers we would call you from here Numbers EE partners will call from |.

That number doesn't appear on that list I'd recommend reporting it. You can see all of the ways to report scams and phishing here Online Security: Avoid and Prevent Scams | EE including a link to report this particular call.

Thanks for letting us know.

Hi @MackD

Welcome to the community.

Thanks for posting about this. Was the number withheld? You're right to be sceptical. If you're ever in doubt, give us a call.

Just had a similar call 5th October 2024 from 02046 148834. He was a Pakistani or Indian with poorish English. He said are you an EE customer and are you satisfied with their bills. I can reduce it by 30 per cent. He was obviously after my bank details and I said this is a scam and rang off.  How did he get my phone number? Didn't EE outsource their call centre to India 10 years ago? Wonder if it's something to do with that ?

I have received multiple calls from 020 4614 8129.

They are offering 50% discount for 6 months "for being a good customer".

They then proceed to ask a load of questions they should know the answer to (amount of last bill, phone number, address).
Clearly someone trying to (a) obtain data (b) a scam.
I hung up when they asked me to tell them my home address, e-mail etc

I have also reported the number
