My Number is being Spoofed

BisquTz
Visitor

I think someone is using my number as a spoof to contact people, is there anything I can do to stop this ?

I have had 2 random people today call me saying they have missed a call from me (I havent made any calls yet today)
And I had a couple a few weeks ago too saying the same thing

I don't particularly want to get my number changed as its a pain

Thanks

Same issue here, getting regular calls from unknown people asking why I called them, nothing in my call log.

I contacted EE support who seemed oblivious to this being a problem and tried convincing me it was a glitch in the network due to heavily traffic during the holiday season, this scam is new to me, but even I knew this was nonsense right away (is there anything more infuriating than knowing you're being lied to and likely know more than the agent on the other end of the line, despite you knowing close to nothing yourself?).

A quick Google search later and it was clear my number was being spoofed to issue scam calls to people (potentially in my area). There's seemingly nothing that can be done about it, but the fact both volunteer and official employees of EE support seem to be oblivious to the issue is a shock - how am I protected when a pretty significant and serious security issue takes EE off guard if they're not even aware of the existing mass scale scams out there.

I am having the opposite, I am receiving calls and when I call back the person has never heard of me they say they haven’t called me.

i have answered a few calls and they are trading platform scams like Bitcoin etc. It is coming from the U.S. I was getting about 50 calls a day from U.K. numbers .

Hi @Lenny12

I'm sorry to hear that. If this becomes unbearable or if you keep getting these calls after a sustained period, our Mobile Care team will be able to change your number for you. I understand this could be something you're reluctant to do though.
Chris

Hi Chris,

I am reluctant to change my number as I have had it for 20 years.

Let’s see how it goes in the next couple weeks.

Lenny

This is ridiculous and is happening to me now.

People are calling me saying that I have called them when I’ve been asleep and have sent me proof that I’ve called them?

You can see on their call log that I called them at 8 o’clock this morning when I was asleep

It’s been happening a few times over the last three weeks. All completely different types of people telling me that I’ve been calling them and I’ve been getting texts saying “who is this”?

When I spoke to EE. They suggested I change my number but I don’t want to change my number after 15 years.

EE have been useless.

Is there anything we can do?

@EER1  Unfortunately EE can’t stop your number being spoofed,  how can they ?   No network can stop this from happening.

To contact EE Customer Services dial 150 From your EE mobile or 0800 956 6000 from any other phone.

Never heard of this before. How do they even do it?

There must be a way for them to stop it.

It’s an EE number and they’re the carrier. Other people shouldn’t be able to make calls from your number.

Can’t they sync the number to the mobile phone used so that only calls from this phone can come from that number?

@EER1  how do EE stop someone from doing this ?    It isn’t something that can be controlled via a network block.     The number that’s being spoofed isn’t making the call it’s a different number but it’s the spoofed number that shows.      It’s like asking a network to stop someone from calling you from a withheld number.

So why doesn’t it show the true number? How are the carriers being duped into showing a number that isn’t the right number?

you’re basically saying they don’t have the software/tech to be able to show the correct number that is calling them
