Hi is anyone else getting messages supposed to be from EE  saying they've got thousands of rewards points that's going to be  lost in 2 days if they dont  click on the link to spend them?

Yes, there's an arbitrary delay inherent between the 2.

If you think I helped please feel free to hit the "Thumbs Up" button below.

To phone EE CS: Dial Freephone +44 800 079 8586 - Option 1 for Home Broadband & Home Phone or Option 2 for Mobile Phone & Mobile Broadband

ISPs: 1999: Freeserve 48K Dial-Up > 2005: Wanadoo 1 Meg BB > 2007: Orange 2 Meg BB > 2008: Orange 8 Meg LLU > 2010: Orange 16 Meg LLU > 2011: Orange 20 Meg WBC > 2014: EE 20 Meg WBC > 2020: EE 40 Meg FTTC > 2022:EE 80 Meg FTTC SoGEA > 2025 EE 150 Meg FTTP

That's completely irrelevant, the delay on a text message is on the order of minutes and has no bearing on this conversation.

As I explained, EE was sending legitimate texts over the course of a day to do with a legitimate upgrade being processed and on the same day in the middle of them a scam text arrived pretending to be from EE. That timing makes the scam more believable and so more dangerous than a random blanket scam text.

If that timing was a complete coincidence that'd be extremely unlikely but it could happen. Except now it's confirmed to have happened to more than 1 person. The more people it happens to, the more likely it is that the scammers are deliberately timing their texts to arrive on the days people upgrade or make legitimate purchases. But to do that they would need access to EE's sales data, which would be a serious data breach.

Yes have just been scamed after following the instructions, the deducted 61pounds from my account and sadly it's the same number that registered my contract sim that just don't have anything in it and they continue sending me mails...

I wish I could see this before, they got my 61pounds already and they wanted to get more then my bank temporary froze my card...

Hi @PatiQ12,

Welcome to the EE Community. 🙂

I'm sorry to hear you've been the victim of a phishing scam.

You've done the right thing in reporting it to your bank.

Did you share any of your EE account details with the fraudulent website?

Hi @Sandibabe54

Did you forward the message to 7726?

Chris

I also have had this problem. I upgraded my daughters phone which is on my account. She received a rewards program text which she sent to me. I spotted a .ly in it, so wouldn't click until I checked. I thought it was odd that she got the text when I am the account holder. This shows that it's not the account that is compromised, but the number which is being upgraded. Parents who have younger children with phones on their accounts should be very aware of this as the child will get the text and may be unable to identify that it is a scam. Fortunately my daughter is 21 and therefore asked if she could use the points.
