Help. I'm going nuts. My (newly purchased) GiffGaff number (ported from seller's GiffGaff a/c to mine) will not receive calls or text from outside the GiffGaff (O2) network. I can make calls and send texts to any network just fine.
I'd love to port it to EE (where my primary account is) but I dare not until it's working properly. But GiffGaff support is really poor and they've done nothing for exactly one month.
So my question is this: can I safely port my number to EE? Will that reset this (presumably network) issue? It is a premium number I cannot afford to lose down the cracks swapping networks, but if anyone is *certain* that the swap would reset things I'd consider it.
Be really grateful for any help. Those pious twats at GiffGaff proclaim to be smart and helpful but disappear if it's anything for complicated than 'wait 24hrs and reboot'. Oh. I'm on my third SIM and second handset. My account is in good standing. I've toggled every setting till my nuts creak.
Thanks in advance...

If you want a 100% guarantee, then I don't think anyone can offer that.
Inability to receive off-net calls normally means porting data has gone wrong - if you're using a native GG-number, that tends to suggest datafill is not present on the calling-party's network - this used to be quite common with newly-issued prefixes but not so recently. Did you have this problem before the GG account swap?
If yes - then that suggests an issue related to your number or the prefix.
If no - that points at an account-specific issue. Replacing the SIM normally serves to re-provision the core network data, rather than proving an issue with the SIM itself.
Instinctively, porting across with this problem unresolved could either magically clear the problem or make it so much worse!!

Thanks so much for this. It's the closest thing I've had to a technical explanation. FWIW it was (I think) working AOK pre-port (and purchase).
I think I'll hold off for a mo, and wait for the GG morons to snap into shape.
Appreciate it…
