Do I need the EE app with my own router and an EE PAYG sim ?

Do I need the EE app on my phone - when I have my own router (TPLink) and an EE PAYG sim ? Or is that just for those with EE supplied broadband and phone - which I don’t get in my area? So this is all new to me. Will the app be any use for me? Like b...
