New eSIM but not sure what to do with old one and number not transferred over

I have bought a new eSIM, been sent it and downloaded it to phone, but my old Vodafone one is still on there and my number doesn’t seem to have transferred to my new EE one yet. Don’t feel like any guidance was given on the process when I signed up to new eSIM, sent PAC number, but now a bit in the dark on how I manage this transfer over. Worried if I delete Vodafone one now I lose my number, phone currently appears to be using both sims

@Red010286  Once your EE eSIM is activated it’ll  take up to 24 hours for your number to migrate across from Vodafone, It’s not instant and at present you have a temporary number so the line can be activated and then your number ported over. You can’t port a number to a none working line.   Do not delete the Voda eSIM yet, you’ll know when it’s ported as the Voda line will stop working and the EE one will have your number assigned to it.   ( you’ll also get a message from EE )

Incorrect. The following working day, is the timescale.

@ee_user14  It’s up to 24 hours the next working day is 24 hours not the moment it’s 12:01am

because by that reckoning if you did this 10 minutes to midnight then the next working day is the moment it’s 12:01 and it’s not getting ported in that timeframe.

No @Chris_B  you are absiolutely wrong on this point. Number ports have NEVER been "upto 24 hours" and have ALWAYS been based on working day timelines, it's beyond me why you keep posting otherwise.

I should perhaps have posted previously "following working day after you submit the PAC, which must itself be during the day" if you want to be strictly accurate.

How would your "upto 24hours" claim work on Bank Holidays or any weekends? It won't.

@ee_user14  Up to 24hours doesn’t mean it’ll be 24hours it’s the words “up to “ is the clue   And at no point have I said anything about bank holidays because if there was a bank holiday involved then I’ll point out that this need extra time because of the bank holiday.

The official advice is as follows - How long it takes to transfer a number to EE | Mobile Help | EE

  • submit the form before 5.30pm Monday to Friday, your number will be transferred the next working day
  • if you submit the form after 5.30pm Monday to Friday or any time at the weekend, your number will be transferred within two working days

Excellent summary thanks for posting @garybs29

Not a single mention of @Chris_B beloved "upto 24hours" either - seriously Chris, it's fine to admit when you're wrong. It takes a bigger person to do so!
