PAYG is auto-enabled for roaming, once the SIM is used on EE's UK network first. Ensure this is done.

Thanks Chris_B, I've read it. My trip is to the USA. I'm sure I read on EE not long ago that for your phone to work properly abroad, payg customers need to switch on roaming by sending a text message to 150. Has this policy been changed? Or was I mistaken?

Never! That's only for contracts. Just make sure you use that SIM in UK to make a call or text before you leave for US.
