Roaming charges - need clarification on £2.29 per day vs. Roam Abroad Pass

My account add-on states: £2.29 per day for EU roaming (which cannot be removed).

If I take the option for a 'Roam Abroad Pass' for £15 (just for the time I am away) does this 'disable' the £2.29 per for EU roaming.  I see no logic in paying twice.

Hi @Prm1

Welcome to the community.

It would be the latter, you'll be charged a pro rata rate for the couple of days before, then the full £15. The new charges don't take effect until after you come back and the add-on would already be on your account at £15.

Make sure you text ROAMING to 150 before going abroad to make sure roaming is enabled on your account.

Have a brilliant time. 🙂

Chris

@Prm1 : You will be charged the former. It is charged per billing month. The price increase to £25 will not affect it as you are charged in advance.

2 different answers!   Obviously I prefer @Christopher_G  's response.

@XRaySpeX  do you still think it would be £30?

Yes, @Prm1 , haven't I just said so? If you follow my arguments above you will see there is no mention of pro-rating in the descriptions of the Roam Abroad Pass.

You'd be charged the full billing month from 4th October, even if it's cancelled part-way through, @Prm1. The couple of days prior to the bill being produced would be a pro rata charge though.

@XRaySpeX - In this circumstance, if the add-on was cancelled before the 4th October, a full £15 charge would be added to the account. If it's carried on to the following cycle, then cancelled, the pro rata applies to the first couple of days and the £15 charge for the full cycle applies. So, essentially, there's a minimum £15 charge overall.

Hope this makes sense.

@Christopher_G yes it makes sense to me.  Although I have to agree with @XRaySpeX in that I haven't seen any reference to pro-rating in the Roam Abroad Pass blurb.  Common sense should dictate that EE wouldn't dare charge users £30 if a Roam Abroad Pass was purchased for a 7 day holiday that happened to straddle their billing periods.

and yes @Christopher_G I'll make sure I text ROAMING to 150 before I go ... I am slightly surprised that that is necessary.

Thanks to you both for your speedy response.

@Prm1 : The only way to find out what's what is for you to report back after your trip as to what you were really charged.

@XRaySpeX  & @Christopher_G  - I added the roam abroad pass on 2nd October - and the following has been added to my bill:

£1.00 for the pass for remainder of my billing month (2 days)    + £15.00 for the pass from 04/10/2023 03/11/2023

So , yes, the charge is pro rata for the remainder of the month that it is taken - then charged for the full 'next' month.  I just need to remember to cancel it when I get back from my second jaunt abroad!

I hope other EE users find this useful in the future.

Thanks for finding that out, @Prm1 . I shall advice that way in future, viz:

The Roam Abroad Pass costs £15 per billing month from the billing month you order it (text ROAMING PASS to 150) until the billing month you cancel it (text STOP ROAMING PASS to 150). For all billing months during which you have the Pass it is charged at the full £15 (soon to become £25 on 18th Oct.). However if the Pass is carried over from the 1st billing month to the next it will be charged pro-rata for that 1st month alone.

@James_B , @Christopher_G : How about this being reflected in the Roam Abroad Pass Help article?
