Re: Isle of Man

As far as I understand, the IOM is NOT part of the EU so I will ask the same question,  should I get a local SIM card when I come to the IOM? On Jersey I was told to get a local SIM there or face a huge charge for data and telephone calls!

You are correct that the IoM is not part of the EU and different charges apply for roaming there - https://ee.co.uk/help/mobile/roaming/roaming-costs

Roaming provides the convenience of using your UK number & account, with charges passed back. Only you can decide whether that covenience is worth it. If you use a local SIM, anyone calling you will be making international calls. If you use your UK SIM, you will pay the incoming international leg.

Yes, that is what I do. I use Manx Telecom while there, but there is a second provider called Sure.
(The UK is also not part of the EU any more, just saying 😉 )

For reference, although the IoM is not part of the EU, it has the same roaming-charging structure - either a £2.29 daily charge for using your allowances, or the £25/month roaming pass to achieve the same ends.

@sallygreen23 : You're right, IOM is not part of the EU per se, but does count as part of EE's European Zone where roaming is cheaper than the Rest of the World & where you can use your UK allowances for a relatively small roaming charge. Jersey is likewise.

You may use your usual UK allowances in EE's European Zone with up to 50 GB (contract) or 25 GB (PAYG) data per billing month if you have more. If on contract & your contract started after 07/07/2021 there'll be a £2.29 / day charge for using your UK allowances in EE's European Zone or alternatively you may buy the Roam Abroad Pass for £25 / billing month.

On PAYG there are charges for using your pack allowances in EE's European Zone of either £2.50 / day or £10 / week, to be taken only from your PAYG credit, not your recurring card payment. If you opt for neither or you don't have an active pack, you will be paying standard rates for calls & texts & need to buy a PAYG add-on for data.

If you are on contract, remember to text ROAMING to 150 before you leave UK to ensure the roaming ability is enabled on your account.

If you are on PAYG, make sure you have used your PAYG SIM to make a call or text in the UK.
