I presume that "won't connect" means the phone can't connect to any Australian networks?
If so, are you on pay-monthly or PAYG? The process to enable roaming - allowing your phone to work abroad - differs.
PAYG is auto-enabled for roaming once used in the UK first.
Pay-monthly needs to be manually enabled, normally by texting ROAMING to 150 from the UK.
