Phone Not Connecting to a Network in India

HI
I landed in India last night and turned my phone on. It 'searched' for a network but didnt connect. I have tried turning it off an on again and switching airplane mode on and off - each time it searches for a network and then fails to find one..... so i am currently stuck with no working phone. The issue is exacerbated because most wifi networks here (the public ones) send a text message to confirm connection - which clearly dont get through!
Any help urgently and gratefully recieved.

Have you activated roaming and international calls?
Log into your on line account and then Menu - Manage Device - make sure you have activated roaming and international calls.
Or
From the MyEE app Current Usage - Controls - activate use phone abroad and make international and premium calls
