PAYG vs Pay monthly SIMs

I have recently bought a PAYG SIM for an elderly relative for emergency use only (as they are an infrequent user), but I have found that the PAYG SIM does not make/receive calls, whereas a pay monthly SIM in the same phone, in exactly the same location, can make/receive calls. Can anyone tell me why this would be?

it's not switched off, I have the phone in front of me, I'm not handing it over until I get it working - sounds like a dodgy phone, might have to return it.

@Wildcat , since you have tried everything, you may be right, it could be faulty.

To contact EE customer service dial 150 from your mobile phone or ring customer service for free using Skype or another phone: +44 800 079 8586 or +44 800 956 6000.

Only puzzle against that is that a contract SIM works in it. Are both those SIMs EE SIMs?

Yep, both SIMs are EE SIMs, one is a paymonthly and one is a PAYG. I bought the PAYG for the emergency phone (Doro 780x) as it will only be used on very rare occasions.

it seems neither the paymonthly sim or the payg sim work in the doro 780x, so can only be the phone that's faulty

@Wildcat , that sounds right, you will need to get it replaced or your money back, hope you got it from a reputable company, good luck!

Went to Doro website, which directs you to Amazon to buy from there. So whether Amazon can be considered a reputable company is a totally different question 😉

I thought you said in your OP that the contract SIM could make and receive calls in the same phone.

I thought it did, but doing another test it didn't so my only likely conclusion is there's something dodgy about the phone

the doro 780x is already packaged up ready to go back. Thanks all for your help. I'll search online for another phone that big button, uses 4g network on an EE PAYG SIM, must be easy to use by someone with reduced capacity (not me, yet)
